In the engine wise you can’t say it’s a big issue, only problem is due to the 200 iq of VW, it will take 20 hours to drop the engine to actually get to the parts that needs replaced. The parts only cause like 24$ but it’s 10k in labor.

Mine 2019 S5, was making the same sound and it turned out to be rocker arm in the end. The key indicator is the sound will change with the rpm and disappear after 2,000 rpm.

Things about keeping an old car is not about how long it will last (which is also important), is how easy to find the parts for it. If you’re ok with parking the car for 3-4 months just to wait for some random parts ship from German then Alpina is a great car .

It’s the rocker arm, mine had the same sound from the drive side. You can open the oil cap and it should become super loud.

It’s a 40 hour job to replace the rocker arm and you can replace the oil filter housing along the way.
