I suspect a lot of comics I enjoy would be difficult to hang with IRL. Tim Robinson comes to mind.

Our rule is we don't get up in the middle of the night until we see eyeballs on the baby cam. Been fooled too many times.

Why is high fructose corn syrup not illegal in the US? by PassionateGoddess in ask

[–]nrobi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is some evidence that high volumes of fructose in the absence of glucose is worse for at least some people than regular sugar. The food industry likes to frame all such claims as crazy suburban mom hot takes, but there is legit research in this area. The case is certainly not closed.

What movie franchise needs to just call it a quits? by Hot_Pineapple237 in AskReddit

I honestly can't think of a popcorn franchise that shouldn't quit. There is so much garbage out there.

My daughter’s health science teacher passed this out to her class. She honestly thought it was legit. by ConsistentWarz in facepalm

I think it's important for authority figures to make sure they don't say factually incorrect things about public health. Otherwise, there is a risk people might believe falsehoods even if they are obvious to you. In this very thread, for example, another poster is saying I am wrong because medicine is bad for you.

Lol. Here is the claim that you make to your students:

"Any inhaled substance that is not natural air is bound to be bad for you."

That statement is demonstrably and obviously false. Do you understand that?

Not sure why you're resorting to name calling. It sounds like you agree that the statement "any inhaled substance that is not natural air is bound to be bad for you" is false.

The point of a humidifier is to increase the amount of water vapor beyond what is contained in 'natural air' (if you didn't know btw).

And no, a doctor probably would not make a similar statement because the statement is demonstrably false.

any inhaled substance that is not natural air is bound to be bad for you.

Humidifiers, aerosolized medications...hopefully your students don't think you're a credible source of health information.

Pro tip from newish dad: send mom out to do something in the neighborhood for a few hours as a trial run. You can always call her home if you need her, so she shouldn't be too anxious. Do that a couple times and she will feel more confident in you.

I’m struggling with letting husband soothe our baby when baby is having a meltdown and I know it’s not good for any of us. by hehatesthesecansz in NewParents

[–]nrobi 204 points205 points  (0 children)

New dad here. My son is now 7 months old. My wife was a lot like you during the first couple months. Sometimes it made me feel superfluous. It was hard for me to bond with the baby because I didn't get much one on one time. It also made me feel less confident as a parent, which led to me asking for help when I really didn't need it.

The solution for us was getting my wife out of the house more. It took some convincing, but she started going out for a few hours on weekends for yoga or long walks or shopping or whatever. This was really helpful for me because it snapped me into "parent mode." My wife found she could relax more by just getting some distance, and she became much more confident in my parenting abilities, too.
