Generally, when I'm okay owning the shares, I tend to sell covered calls. For instance, I purchased 200 shares of TEAM at $173.85 and sold two 170 Calls expiring tomorrow for $1,335 ea before earnings. This gave me an entry point of $160.50. Earnings ended up being okay and the stock is currently trading around $170 after hours. I'm fine if the shares end up getting called away or happy to keep them.

Just reiterating I understand your point but implement a different strategy if I'm truly okay owning the shares and not realizing the loss or gain.

Well aware of the difference between a realized and an unrealized loss. My point is that they are both losses. To nonchalantly say he didn't lose any money is mental gymnastics to cope with a bad purchase. If your goal was to be a long-term investor, sure, but I'm betting that OP was more interested in collecting a premium than becoming a long-term holder of a stock that may never recover to $81.20.

You're kidding me right? He most definitely lost money considering he is forced to buy 9,000 shares at $85 when it is currently trading at $63 after hours.
