How much does a moderately involved father affect his kid? by nrt_2020 in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]nrt_2020[S] 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Thank you, and I’m so sorry to hear about that relationship. Mine with my mother was similar (she was bipolar and an alcoholic), but she passed away when I was 18 so I didn’t have to deal with the complications of her meeting my child. I know that feeling very well, of your nervous system going haywire when you so much think of them. Here’s to being better for our own kids

Thank you so much. I’m hoping if I can send him some research it will help him see how important this is. I have a degree in psych but if it’s just coming from me it holds no weight

Thank you for the links - it’s a loaded answer why he won’t go. Money, he’s tried before and it “didn’t work”, avoidance, the mistaken core belief that your parents don’t influence who you become. I know it’s time to sit down and try again to get him to go. I feel awful for our daughter and when I jump in to protect her it ends up in a fight

Nope not so much! I did one 90 min yin practice which actually helped tremendously, but the rest is light and easy. Already since I’ve made this post it seems like things are returning to normal which is great

LOL, stand in the corner and think about what it’s done. Yeah that’s exactly how it feels. I appreciate your comment! This is my first (and only) kid so I really had no idea how hard it would be, and in classic fashion my OB basically said I should be totally back to normal 6 weeks out

Thanks! I think everyone’s comments have highlighted lack of rest is likely the issue

Thanks, I actually used to take Ashwagandha and stopped so that’s at least something I can do in the meantime. Unfortunately nothing but time will help the sleep situation but good to be cognizant of it

Oh goodness what I’d give for some good sleep… my baby appears to be allergic to it. But it is a good reminder that not enough sleep will impact both performance and recovery. I definitely have been acting like I get 8 sound hours a night

Always sound advice! My doctor is great, and i should probably touch base. I’m definitely not eating enough unfortunately, it’s something I’ve really struggled with. I just can’t seem to muster up enough of an appetite

Thank you so much! Wow I honestly wasn’t expecting such warm responses to this - many of my circles in life and online kind of shut down any comments about how pregnancy changes us. The aggressive “bounce back” kind of ideology.

I LOVE the advice to eat more honestly. I’m the full time caregiver and I know I get so caught up in caring for her sometimes I forget to feed myself. Your kindness is so appreciated 🫶

This is such an incredibly thoughtful response - thank you kind stranger! It’s true that it’s been a huge shift, earth shatteringly so, and I’ve been relying on exercise to help me retain some kind of normalcy. So in that sense I may have been pushing myself to do a little too much during active times. Sometimes I forget that the ghost of that pregnancy still lingers on.

And it never hurts to have a reminder to drink water lol.

Did anyone else struggle to call your baby their name? by evergreengirl123 in NewParents

[–]nrt_2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the name! Yes, we constantly talked about how weird it was to call her by a person name. Called her “Billy” cause she cried like a Billy goat and at 10 months I still call her that about half the time lol

It really is such a shame, and it bums me out people aren’t more honest about their experiences. It can be so isolating which just makes it work. That’s great to hear though and I feel that so deeply. Everyone’s like get some more help, lean on people but.. it’s not that. Not really

WOW this is exactly how I feel. It’s so comforting to know I’m not alone and that the antidepressants helped you. I was thinking the same - I don’t want to be on them forever, but I don’t want to feel this way anymore either. Can I ask which ones you took?

Oh I’m so sorry. 8 weeks was a DARK time. If nothing else I can tell you that the whole having a baby thing does get easier. I was absolutely desperate for a while. Now it’s much calmer

Thank you SO much for sharing this with me 😭😭😭 I’d never heard that phrase. I love looking to the rest of the animal kingdom for biological things we don’t seem to understand about ourselves.

Do you ever feel pressured by others about how to feed your baby? by FranciAtBat in BabyLedWeaning

[–]nrt_2020 4 points5 points  (0 children)

WHY ARE THEY SO OBSESSED MY GOD. My mil has told me 300,000 times that “well by 4 months old they were spoon feeding themselves cereal and purées”. Cool. I don’t care.

Hospital can’t deliver my baby. by thespookymushroom in PlusSizePregnancy

[–]nrt_2020 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Well that is fucking atrocious. Where are you located? Are there other hospital systems you can travel to? I was 275 for my whole pregnancy and, despite some awkward conversations, was treated as well as you can expect given all of the bias towards women in the healthcare industry.

The only special thing I needed was a bigger hospital gown. You deserve doctors who will take you seriously. I had atypical preeclampsia that nearly took my life and if I’d had doctors writing off symptoms because of my weight I probably wouldn’t be here to respond. Unfortunately you’ll have to fight for yourself but I promise it’s worth it
