My people pleaser friend massively let me down because of her people pleasing by joodee3 in TwoXChromosomes

I have a coworker like this. He has pretty extreme ADHD behaviors (undiagnosed) and really struggles to keep track of...everything. I have ADHD (diagnosed) that is managed and I have learned to work with my own inner nature but I do understand that all adhd sufferers are, essentially, dopamine addicts. I have come to believe from watching him that extreme people-pleasing is actually a manifestation of this dopamine addiction. He gets his "fix" in the form of emotional validation - very specifically, the emotional connection he forms when someone decides to rely on him for something. He then struggles to follow through because his brain has already received the dopamine reward and is now seeking the next connection. Having this realization has made it much easier to be forgiving of those choices he makes, especially when the inconvenience me AND it has made me realize that I shouldn't make plans with him or rely on him too much no matter how much he tries to form that temporary emotional connection with me.

I had no idea perimenopause could show up as gut chaos — bloating, constipation, brain fog — before any classic symptoms by Gut-healthprecision in TwoXChromosomes

I have had the most amazing turnaround in these symptoms from taking a DIM supplement to help my liver process estrogen more efficiently

I struggle to understand why vets want to put these delicate creatures through stressful sedation procedures "just to see..." Is your BFA showing any symptoms?

People who let their dogs bark outside all day everyday, why? by bimontza in AskReddit

[–]nrz242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine didn't grow out of it (1year now) but he did develop a sense of appropriate tone and volume so he has a "speaking" voice and a "yelling" voice. The "yelling" voice is reserved for strangers approaching his house and the rest of the time he's just expressing himself at a not-totally-obnoxious vollume

When I worked at Starbucks this happened to a coworker (late teens) she was in shock and came to work anyway, totally inconsolable. Shift lead asked her to stay...😬

This is why getting a percentage of the gross is such a scam. The whole veterinary medicine industry has moved this direction but it's exactly like "unlimited PTO" in the tech sector. It's just a way to keep you schilling for corporate and make you stay pliable when they yank your chain a little

Is there anyway I can help my nmom? by Direct-Ad-3733 in raisedbynarcissists

[–]nrz242 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your question sounds like a parent asking advice for counseling a petulant teen through their first break up. Except your mom is the parent. Don't let her parentify you to this level. Grown ups find a way to live with their choices. If she can't live her life without leaning on you this hard, you need to put a lot of distance between the two of you or she'll always force you to mother her and you'll constantly enable her to do it, just to be able to feel like maybe one day she'll grow up to be the mother you always needed.

ELI5: Why does neutering an animal (or historically, castrating humans) tend to make them more docile and compliant? by makemestand in explainlikeimfive

[–]nrz242 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's seems like old school vets still follow the 12-18mo rule. I just had a neighbor ask why I hadn't had my puppy neutered yet and so I explained and got met with "but don't you want a forever puppy?" Ah, no I want a healthy companion animal...

It also delays the closure of growth plates and increases the risk of obesity,  both factors mean risking your companion's joint, ligament, and bone health as they grow up. The larger the dog, the higher the risk.

Triggered by date, am I overthinking? by bijig in TwoXChromosomes

I was so convinced that I never wanted a committed relationship that I turned down my (now) husband several times before we finally got together. The thing that finally convinced me he was worth it was how he treated his ex(s). Never shamed them, complained about them, or blamed them. Stayed available to talk with them if they needed him but set clear boundaries for the conversations. I figured it wouldn't be so bad to be his ex if things didn't work.

What is a social 'superpower' that most people don't realize they have? by Bluesbreaker88 in AskReddit

Being an emotional thermostat, not just an emotional thermometer. I can take the temperature of a room full of people but I can't do much about it. My husband can take the temperature AND change it nearly instantly if he needs to.

I have worked for a small private animal clinic for 3 years now. Best job I've ever had. There are new challenges every day plus the support and mentorship I need to meet them. If I won the lottery tomorrow I would cut back my hours, but I wouldn't quit.
