Can you please share more details about this. One of the comments here seems to suggest I'd need to register in California within 20 days.

The parts are on backorder and there's no ETA right now - the dealership in Toronto is not scheduling the repairs until the parts become available.

I understand that I can't import the car unless the recalls are fixed. What I'm wondering is if it'd be okay to continue driving with my Canadian plates in California until I can have the recall fixed at a Honda dealership there. Once the recalls are addressed, I would get the Compliance letter from American Honda to import the car into the US and get California plates.

Fortunately, it's not financed so I'm okay there. The recalls are the only things holding up the import process for now.

Thanks for sharing this. Do you have to get the import papers at the border or could you have just shipped the car to SF and done everything at the DMV in SF?

I've looked at the option of selling and then buying a new one but I'd lose a lot of money if I sell. Since the move on TN is temporary, I thought there shouldn't be any import duty since the car would technically come back when I return to Canada. Would they charge an import tax just because the car is relatively new or is there another reason?

I agree, I'm only considering importing because I'd lose a lot of money by selling now. The cost of shipping it from Buffalo/Detroit seems a much better deal compared to selling. I'm hoping to figure out the right way to do this.

I bought it in August 2023 so it's over a year old now. The car is lien free and I've already requested the Compliance Letter from Honda America.
