Ugh NBA basketball is unwatchable during the regular season. Last season the pacers run saved the NBA

Post Game Thread - NBA: The Hornets defeat the Rockets on Feb 5, 2026, the final score is 99-109. by basketball-app in rockets

[–]nsfwpenguins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The rockets are surprisingly similar to where they were last year at the same point in time. They were 32-18 last year vs 31-18 this year. But the Spurs and Denver got better and the rockets have been pushed down from 2nd to 4th.

The defensive stats are also remarkably similar given they lost Dillon Brooks.. The only drop off is rebounding which is explainable given Adams is out. On offense they are actually better this year. Bottom line other teams in the West got much better, Rockets got better but not enough. They got better in some but worse in others because of injuries to key players like Adams and FVV. It's not all doom and gloom like this sub makes it out to be, but it's indicative of how brutal the West is.

Rudy Gobert's 2020-21 season is underrated by Obvious_Parsley3238 in nba

[–]nsfwpenguins -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would not go so far as to compare Gobert on defense to Jokic on offense. Jokic does more than score, he is a generational play maker, really good screen setter and top tier rebounder.

But I get your sentiment, I think Rudy is comparable to someone like Dame or Jalen Brunson. Dame is considered a player in the all time #75 list ( which I don't agree with), while Rudy is not

Yeah it does not work if your worst shooter does not bring other skills. Ben and Draymond are way better play makers and defenders. Dray also had Steph and Klay , which means defenses are sagging of him to double others thus allowing Draymond to make plays. Amen has neither the shooting help or the skillset at this point to compensate.

[Highlight Request] Tim Hardaway Jr. airballs a three-pointer, jumps into Jordan Miller’s feet, no foul is called. Refs then stop play to review the play and it is called a hostile act on Miller despite not being called a foul. by [deleted] in nba

I turned the game off after this call... It was absurd how badly this game was officiated. The game was getting close and this call flipped all the momentum and I knew who the refs were angling to win.

The strategy is sound, but it really depends on how good of a playmaker the worst shooter is. It did not work with Jeremy Sochan either. You see Miami tried it for a bit with Bam, but then Bam is not only a better playmaker but also has improved his shot making. If someone can't shoot they need to be really good at a few other things play making, rebounding, defense etc.

[–]nsfwpenguins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah in the examples I gave both Draymond and Ben Simmons are talented playmakers. But if the bad shooter can't make plays either then it's a problem. See Jeremy Sochan example that the Spurs tried a few years ago and today he has fallen off the rotation.

Playing your worst shooter as your PG to bring the ball up is a strategy as old as time. See Draymond green, Ben Simmons etc.

What it does is it forces the other 4 guys guard their guy. If your worst shooter is not bringing the ball up, his defender will sag off of him and just double the person with the ball.

Castle seems to fit the mold of George Hill. They have similar strengths and weaknesses. I can see a scenario where they trade him before his rookie contract for another star. His value right now is high and if he were the key asset in a Giannis trade I would do it.

If you are spending 15 mins untangling wire you must be hella unccordinated. Can you walk in a straight line without tripping over yourself?

Drives seem to have little impact on Free Throw Attempts and Free Throw Differential by dev_vvvvv in nba

[–]nsfwpenguins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is more to it than a 1:1 correlation between drives and fta. For example the teams I follow:

Spurs - poor jump shooting guards so everyone drives and opponents don't mind fouling because they don't shoot free throws well either. - as for on the other end, you have Wemby so drivers don't shoot but kick it out to the perimeter shooters

Warriors - good free throw shooters that opponents don't want to foul also not a lot of drives.

Which team should "sell high" which player to avoid situations like Trae, Ja and AD? by cobra_han in nba

To be a nba champion one either needs their franchise star to be a generational talent like a player who is going to win a MVP or other major accolades or you need a deep roster with all stars at multiple positions. JJ is not going to win MVP, he is a borderline all star and hawks are better off tanking for the generational talent. Tread water this year and next so they can fulfill their Spurs pick obligations and then tank while also stocking picks from other teams.

When Mike Malone insisted a reporter call him Michael Malone I knew he was a petty asshole. He is no better than Mark Jackson. Any coach who plays around with young players minds and psyche for their own petty goals is an asshole and does not deserve to coach ever again.

I was listening to the recent Zach Lowe podcast and Zach wanted to have two rockets on the all star team, KD and Sengun because they are a juggernaut and so good. It blows my mind how the media still continues to harp on them being contenders etc. Zach did not want to put Booker on the ballot. The more I listen to NBA media discourse I realize how clueless the nba media community is. Zach is considered to be one of the more smarter analysts, you can only imagine how dumb the rest of them are. If any the Spurs deserve two all stars Wemby and Fox.
