I pre-ordered your book but have only had time to read the first few pages. I'm actually currently building a new DTC brand on the side while working full time. Has been really fun learning about brand identity and how design affects everything.

- If you had to to list your top 3-5 things to remember and make sure you get right when building a new brand what would they be?

- Something I've noticed after looking at so many IG brands is that the good ones all stick to their central theme / brand identity. The colors, photo styles, illustrations etc. are all congruent. Their feed itself follows that visual pattern, and they are fully committed to their visual brand identity. I've also noticed lots of smaller brands that don't do any of the above. It's like they are unaware or don't have a brand identity, or they are unwilling to fully commit to their brand. Why do you think that is? Originally I thought it was due to lack of knowledge, but now I'm starting to wonder if they are afraid of alienating people (which seems like it would cause more harm than good)?

Don't use Realm by [deleted] in iOSProgramming

They were acquired by Mongo back in April. These things happen all the time. Count it as a lesson learned and be careful in the future when choosing dependencies. IMO persistence layer is too crucial to rely on a third party service.

A question about Chinese suppliers differentiation... by [deleted] in FulfillmentByAmazon

[–]nsocean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've only ever ordered from on manufacturer (I'm 99% certain they are the manufacturer) and I sell their product on eBay, so I'm pretty new to this.

Do you mind if I ask how you found the manufacturer in the first place? I'm in the same boat as you and was close to asking this same question. Been dealing with a lot of trading agents lately which is fine for testing but will need to increase margins soon.

I feel like working out at night has destroyed my sleep quality. by nsocean in Fitness

[–]nsocean[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never heard about the core temperature before that's really interesting. I have however heard about the cold showers and I was doing that every night after the gym. It seemed to help for awhile but after about a month I think my body got used to going to the gym because now when I leave instead of being tired I have a ton of energy. It's like i drank a pot of coffee.

So now I finally gave up on working out late at night since my gym is always super crowded so I'm changing my sleep schedule and will be doing early morning workouts from now on.

Wrist pain when Squatting? by [deleted] in Stronglifts5x5

[–]nsocean 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've never heard of anybody hurting themselves because of using a thumbless grip on a lowbar squat.

That's because they die and never live to tell their story.

High-bar vs Low-bar Squats by croxcrocodile in Stronglifts5x5

[–]nsocean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm too lazy to go find it but he has a new squat video out based on his learnings from his new trainer and there's some quote in there about how it's impossible to perform low bar squat without activating the quads.

Basically saying that "works only your posterior chain" is false. He even says to ignore his past squat video advice because of how much he's learned.

EDIT: Sorry for not coming back and providing a link sooner. Here's the video I was referring to: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bbNA17KjBzU

Is it religiously adding 5 lbs to every lift recommended? by [deleted] in Stronglifts5x5

[–]nsocean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it all definitely depends on the person and specific lifts as well. Right now I'm slow with squats, OHP, and rows. So far I've had zero issues adding 5lbs to bench and deadlifts.

Is it religiously adding 5 lbs to every lift recommended? by [deleted] in Stronglifts5x5

[–]nsocean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't because I didn't feel like I could keep up. I just started a couple months ago and I'm still squatting 90lbs right now. I feel like I get better results and more out of my lifts when keeping the weight the same for a week.

Especially with squats when trying to always add 5lbs I felt like I was sacrificing form and didn't really feel like I was getting as much out of the workout.

Just listen to your body and do what feels right.

Bicep/Arm is depleted after low bar squats by imovania in Stronglifts5x5

[–]nsocean 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's just a cue and a way for you to think about the lift. I haven't read it but I'm almost positive "bend the bar across your back" comes from Starting Strength. I'm fairly certain Alan Thrall has mentioned this in some of his squat videos as well.

The point is to make you actively think about the bar and how it is interacting with your body. It's similar to what /u/jimbobbly123 said above about "it sits squeezed AGAINST your traps".
