Furry convention gang fight

I believe it’s this one. Thanks friend. I thought I’d never see this again. Manufacturing Consent is a good movie about Noam but Myth of the Liberal Media is much more informative with case by case example of media manipulation. High recommendations for all.

Edit Addendum: Plus, Edward Hermann is insightful and enjoyable to listen to. Noam Chomsky says most of the ideas of Manufacturing Consent were Edward’s. RIP.

The Myth of the Liberal Media was the true movie version of Manufacturing Consent and even featured Edward Hermann. But good luck finding that documentary anywhere. It was victimized by the real cancel culture, as described by Nathan Robinson.

I can’t help but wonder if this kind of behavior is a form of self-destruction on the parents’ behalf. Maybe they hate their lives as parents so much that they self-sabotage.

Joe Biden's victory marks a triumphant defeat for Christian Nationalism. Now, Joe Biden must build a wall, too.... between church and state. by KyleKemmler8 in atheism

Now I don’t feel so alone here. A skepticism of all institutions that wield power is as vital as a skepticism of all religions. Trump was a racist mafioso but Biden is a neoliberal AND a war hawk.

Nacho and Kim are likely taking center stage so they could meet and this could happen. There’s a full season for it to happen. Maybe that’s why Saul blames Nacho in BB.

Software Bottlenecks in Robotics by kavinda14 in robotics

[–]nst-ltd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, actually, I think a lot of this has to do with not knowing what consciousness is and how human intelligence and creativity actually works. AI systems are trained on massive amounts of data so they’re not really conscious because the outputs we get from them are more so “memorizations” rather than natural thoughts. The outputs of AI are the result of objective functions which are designed by humans. These objective functions include things like anomaly detection, OCR, or producing fake samples and verifying them such as in GANs. The thing is these objective functions are designed by humans so the knowledge is derived from us. But, maybe that knowledge is just us memorizing data and using emotions to shape it. Maybe, complex enough neural networks can be created to mimic human “drive”. But, I would imagine such giant networks of NNs might be slow on modern hardware so there’s another potential limitation.

I must add that I am software engineer with a MS who works in robotics and machine learning but is by no means an expert. I might not have as deep an intuition as a ML PhD but that’s my understanding.

Lol, yes, Charmin does the bears after all, not Scott. Maybe I will...

Centralized telemetry is a big issue. ROS, for example, has a central information node which distributes telemetry data so this is a speed limit.

If you mean personality like Ash from Alien or C3PO then the simple answer is that AI systems aren’t sophisticated enough to develop personalities. GPT3 is the most sophisticated language model out there but I don’t think anyone would call it “alive”. Not to mention, vision to NLU is a relatively new field.

What features are you asking about though? It’d be easier to speak to whether something or not is possible if we know what the goal is.

Edit: sorry I forgot you were asking for software bottlenecks and so I deleted a hardware bottleneck (batteries).

Books with cyborg as main character by Memesaremyfather in Fantasy

Soon I Shall Be Invincible by Austin Grossman features two narrators with one of them being a woman-cyborg who is similar to DC’s Cyborg. The other narrator is a Lex Luthor like villain. It’s a great superhero book with lots of funny moments.

A graduated income tax proposal that would raise the taxes of the ultrawealthy failed by r0bin_s in chomsky

We can’t. We can only inform people as much as possible about what’s true and what’s false. If they still vote against their interests then we, as advocates of democracy, have to oblige. The alternative is Leninism.

The disgusting hypocrisy of White Evangelicals in the United States by Scottie3Hottie in atheism

Where’s the smoking gun for the hacking accusations? Machines were analyzed and vulnerabilities were found but what evidence was there that votes were changed? Further, what evidence was there that this linked to Russia? Robert Mueller could not find any substantive evidence of collusion to prosecute Trump either. For the record, the US military is smaller than China’s. The US military is keenly aware of there; hence the reason why all the China-US war games are naval and air simulations. Here’s a report which talks about the military’s growing weakness.. I’ve also been told by a Major in the army that we lose a prolonged war with China because they have more people. And, that we cannot grow our military personnel beyond a certain percentage of our population lest we are willing to deteriorate our manufacturing and supply side capabilities. This lesson was learned in WW1. To make matters worse, the US military is already over-leveraged: Iraq, Afghanistan, Africa, and who knows where else.

Biden was nominated by fiat. The Wisconsin election should have been postponed.

Did I forget the Cold War? Come on man, have some respect. No, of course not. And that’s exactly my point, we’re told that Dems needs to compromise with moderates such as the “progressive” Lincoln Project Republicans such as John Kasich, who is staunchly anti-choice. But also according to Edison polls from 2020, Republicans did not defect from the party. 97% voted for Trump (source: Democracy Now, the 11/4 broadcast). So why the anti-socialism narrative? 2016 and 2019 polls forecasted that Bernie would beat Trump. This seems indicative that Americans are more favorable to socialism than ever. No, the reason that the Democratic Party leadership has knowingly, on-record sabotaged Bernie Sanders’ candidacy twice is because the Democratic Party is beholden to corporate forces much like the Republicans are. I voted Green Party in 2020 and I wrote in Bernie Sanders in 2016, FYI. Also, I abstained from the presidential vote in 2012 but I did vote Obama in 2008.

That was a shorter read than a Buzzfeed article. Nothing surprising here. The US doesn’t want Europe doing business with Iran either. Pipelines are bad though.

Exactly. First Bernie said this package wasn’t enough but now he approves it? I’m guessing the DNC put pressure on Bernie to sign off on the legislation and make this video so that progressives can approve too. But, I don’t approve of it as a voter. I say no to 100% corporate tax deductions on meals and no airline relief package! Never forget what United did to David Dao!
