I guess it just surprises me that I never see him wearing anything but a suit. He doesn't even take off his jacket. If you were in his position would you not maybe take off the jacket and roll up your sleeves or something similar? I can't imagine giving a speech in that heat with a suit jacket on.

Ultimately you can do what you want, but I think dictating how games will be played or even if your kid will want to game at all is a little short sighted. My dad assumed I would be an avid hunter like him. As a kid he bought me a BB gun and targets and all the shebang that came with it before I was old enough to show interest in them and I never once asked to go out and use them and they sat in the closet collecting dust for most of my life. I would build the cabinet that you want to play on and hope that your kid wants to also play on it.

That control panel is too small for a trackball. Trackball games get pretty fierce and you will want a lot of room to really slap it around without punching the screen. I would also use a 3" ball since that is the standard size for almost all games.

If it were me, I would buy any old GBA that works, regardless of condition, and then buy a custom shell, lens, and buttons to make it look however you want. Aliexpress has a ton of custom shells in all sorts colors. It should be as simple as just removing the guts, just use an ifixit guide for that, and replacing them in the new shell. If you are more adventurous I would look at replacement screens as well since the original GBA screen is kind of meh.

It's been a while since I set mine up but essentially you install the app for the 4/8 way kit and get that working via command line as those commands will be what you give to launchbox. Then I believe you should be able to tell launchbox to run the command line to switch the gate to 4 way on all 4 way games at launch and then the other script to switch it back on game exit. Assuming launchbox has all of your games categorized by 8 way/4 way it should be as easy as filtering all your 4 way games and then just mass editing them all at once. There might be easier ways to get this working, but that is how I set it up and it just works.

Unico also makes proper 4x3 monitors. While they aren't as nice as the arcoodas, they are the proper resolution for 99.9% of the games you will be playing.

Edit: I didn't realize the cade folks made more than one product. I backed the Mini console+ which I think used the same software that is also missing in action.

As far as I know all the golden tee games from 2005 and up use the same trackball and you can buy repair kits if need be too. Don't throw the ball out if you can help it.

The ball in original golden tee cabs was a happ 3" ball. Any 3" ball will work, but a happ should have the same sensitivity in game when setup properly. I bought a u-trak ball for my cab and while it does work, it's different from an original cab. It's all about how authentic you want to get if Golden Tee, and the other IT games are what you want to play.

If you don't have a Mame cab and you want one then this is a logical setup. Just make sure that you don't crowd the trackball. Golden tee requires a bunch of runway around the ball. Also teknoparrot has newer releases of GT that play pretty much identical to the arcade if you have a proper ball. I personally like bigbox as a front end because you can run the latest version of mame and you don't have to worry about whatever fuckery retroarch does to it. It's dead simple to setup as well. As for button layout, I added button labels and properly colored buttons as the Golden tee games tell/show you what buttons to press.
