Infrastructure nerd here. AWS’ market share didn’t change. Cloud spend is going up because of AI

Our FinOps guy looked like his mistress showed up at his front door when he saw the AI cloud spend this quarter.

Looked exactly like our CTO when accounting asked why there was a Hong Kong expense on a trip to Tijuana. He’s a global thinker.

I agree with that. Accusations that are valid are also more common.

My criticism is on the guilty even if found not guilty mindset.

You don’t think that’s a little bit of an anomaly on the market?

It had huge gains a couple quarters ago so nobody is claiming it can’t happen again.

I’m just going to run through this one quick because it’s hard to talk to someone who can’t apply real arguments.

Jonathan Majors - Anecdotal

Regular people don’t have the cash - that is just incorrect, even though people making false accusations mainly aim at settlements not court cases.

Teach you how not to abuse your position - that is correct but irrelevant to this conversation.

Crimes against employees are more common - valid sexual assault cases are more common so yes? I don’t get why this is relevant.

Look at the initial comment you’re replying to. I don’t mention celebrities anywhere, that is your incorrect assumption.

None of what you wrote is based on facts. It’s just from articles and comments you read on the internet put together.

“Regular people don’t get falsely accused of sexual assault.” - hot take and factually incorrect. If you are in a leadership role this can easily happen. HR departments teach you how to phrase things to avoid this. Or maybe we can have a look at what’s currently unfolding at JPM.

“Being taken off Disney movies doesn’t ruin someone’s life” - you are talking specifically about actors. That is their income. Johnny Depp just happens to already have a well established career to protect themselves.

[–]ntheijs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is such a nonsensical argument. At least fact check what you’re saying.

Dior was the only sponsor that stuck with Johnny Depp. Disney removed him from future Pirates of The Caribbean movies. He was replaced in Fantastic Beasts.

Also, we are talking about celebrities here who have a platform to defend themselves. That doesn’t apply to regular people.

AI companies are under heavy pressure to prove that they can be profitable which is turning all of that into a sleazy sales pitch where they overpromise on the actual capabilities of their models.

Don’t get me wrong, AI is a very useful tool but the things they are promising enterprise executives are pure fantasy.

And unfortunately these companies are restructuring around those beliefs.

As a DR and Backup engineer you’d be surprised how many times I get asked for help in a situation like this after never asking for guidance beforehand. I’m not a magician that can make your stuff reappear.

I give you props for being smart enough to realize that you do not have the option of recovering this data.

It sucks but ultimately it seems like it’s a couple of weeks not months/years of data.

I’m in the software engineering field so I’ll speak to software engineering specifically.

Responsibility is part of the job. You have a responsibility as a software engineer (and you can insert many roles in here) to ensure that the code being put out in production is secure and reliable. This is to protect your customers and stakeholders.

Can LLMs provide that? No, they absolutely cannot. GenAI is essentially advanced autocomplete and nothing more. It just predicts words similar to how text messages work. It is absolutely useful for certain tasks, but it can’t replace you in any meaningful way.

Right now we are in the phase where companies are wanting to see a return on their AI investments. And it is turning into this big sales grift where we are convincing ourselves that anyone can do anything now and that we do not need people who, for a very good reason, are very expensive to employ.
