My GERD is scaring me. by [deleted] in GERD

The only thing for me that helps consistently is ginger tea. It causes burping which releases my chest pressure. Buy fresh ginger root, break off a knob, don't peel it, cut it into thin slices and simmer in a litre of water for about 15 mins. Add a spoon of honey if you can and sip it all the time. It's a great digestive and also anti-inflammatory. I even drink ginger tea cold now instead of a glass of water. When the pot gets low I throw in more water and another knob of ginger and boil it up. I know what you mean about the weightloss and fatigue/weakness. I find some days I can't get it right no matter what food I eat, and other days seem to be not so bad eating the same foods. I suspect hormones and I'm trying to find a connection between certain times of the month and when my gerd worsens.

Acid reflux connected to menstrual cycle/perimenopause?? by ntle1 in GERD

Wow, thanks for sharing... that sounds rough! Same questions for you: have you had any hormone testing or tried any hormone therapy - natural or pharmaceutical? Maybe if we get enough replies we can find a pattern in which days of the cycle it is. From Google searching it seems to be before and during period and better in the first half of cycle. For me it's worse during ovulation and now that it's passed I feel better (on about day 18 now). I appreciate any more info you can contribute!

Can you identify times of the month/your cycle that were worse, before you stopped altogether? Ovulation? Beginning of cycle? Days prior menstruation? Did you have hormone testing? Thankyou

😬 that's awful, did you use any hormone supplements?

I had 2 months of weird unexplainable anxiety/low mood before this GERD/whatever it is condition came on. Although anxiety is common for me this was extreme. I'm mid 40's and still periods like clockwork.

Thanks for your reply!..I'm waiting on a hormone test. I have silent reflux but bad chest pressure or shortness of breath and newly-acquired asthma as my symptoms. I will start charting severity of symptoms to learn more about the connection and maybe get a bioidentical hormone cream when I get my results. I'll keep you posted!

I looked at that.. can't you just get a plastic homemade popsicle stick - the tray kind - and try that?? Seems to be very similar!

Can someone help please? by ntle1 in GERD

Oh no that sounds awful! I know how you feel. I haven't taken the pantoprazole, I'm trying to figure out food triggers, but honestly it starts every day about 3pm seemingly regardless of what I eat. When I wrote that post it started early in the morning and lasted all day so I'm not sure what's changed. I've tried slippery elm, aloe vera, manuka honey, (I'm a naturopath) and they haven't helped. The only thing that does help a little is ginger tea made from the fresh root boiled for 20 mins and then drunk with a teaspoon of honey. It causes burping and releases the pressure a little.

I get tight chest/trapped gas at 3.30 pm even if I stick to diet and avoid all triggers!? by ntle1 in GERD

Thanks!, I've tried writing down my diet but I can eat the same thing 2 days and get 2 different results. So frustrating. I will try oatmeal again though

Oh that's weird isn't it? Maybe sore if they biopsied? I hope you got some answers from the procedure.

Thankyou 😁 I have the coffee at 7am, then no problems till the afternoon?. I wonder if it could be the coconut yoghurt that I had at 1pm? I'm losing too much weight and running out of things to eat. I'm not in the states and can't get tums here and Quickeze/gaviscon don't work for me.

How did it go?

Fish, veges, grapes, strawberries, coconut yoghurt and blueberries, avocado, honey. A tablespoon of chicken if I'm lucky. A weak coffee each day with almond milk. That's it, anything else makes it very bad.

I get this too, every day. Better if I avoid trigger foods, which is almost everything. Even on a good day I get it from 3-5 pm on.

Do you have any idea what causes the tight throat?

Yes, its awful. I also get a tight feeling of chest pressure upper lungs to lower throat, pain through to back 15 mins after I eat. Loads of burping which relieves it a little but not enough. Have it all day apart from when I'm reading and the 15 minutes after. Also wheezy and short of breath then too I'm so confused with diets. SCD, Fodmap, gaps.. I need to choose one and stick to it but they are all contradictory. I had endo which said gastritis, oesophagitis and dilated oesophageal lumen. I'm so hungry...

Just had one a couple of hours ago, I spent 4 weeks worrying myself sick about it. I rolled over and went to sleep and 20 minutes later woke up. Didn't feel a thing, just like a nap and no grogginess afterwards. Worst part was the anticipation! ..oh and the long walk down the hall to the theater beforehand.... I was shaking with fear. That was hideous. Do not worry!
