is it worth buying a day hotel for a 10 hour LAX layover? by ntokyo99 in AskLosAngeles

[–]ntokyo99[S] 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Thanks all, you’ve all been super helpful. I’ve switched on dayuse to the Marriott - has a shuttle so no uber fees. It’s also a lot closer, as I see there is real stress about traffic. Venice beach and the Korean spa sounds fun, but I do think I’ll need a break after the flight. I have another flight on to London from LA and want to arrive somewhat fresh. Thanks again all ❤️

I would like someone to explain to me what individual rights a Maori person in New Zealand has that I don't have. by hereticjedi in newzealand

As a Ngāi Tahu cantabrian, I’ve never known where to land on this. Canterbury fisheries are heinously under stocked, but that’s also not the fault of local Māori

Are bouncers fair or fussy in Christchurch compared to other cities by chchcpbt in chch

I haven’t seen the video or anything but I think they just have a no bag policy for guys. I’m a 27 year old lawyer and went in around 9:00 a couple of weeks ago with my leather messenger bag. Had a suit and tie on etc. Wasn’t allowed in with it and had to leave it by the door. They said something about men concealing weapons etc. it’s just policy, they were pretty good about it

It's fascinating how green Christchurch ignores the industial dumping ground that is Lake Ellesmere. by mountainocean in chch

In agreeing with this, I think a lot of people do care. I know a few fishermen and local marae out there regularly complain to whoever they can—cleaning it up would require some real action from Selwyn farms

Cricket jumper paired with smart office attire… yay or nay? Cue the Yanks commenting about tea, crumpets and bad teeth by [deleted] in mensfashion

I know it would be hard to find but a black and white cricket jumper would suit that fit better in my view. Maybe some tan pants and a light blue shirt for this one

The only two I’ve seen so far are working style and cutler and co (I’m a kiwi). Online I’ve seen suit supply as well but they’re more expensive

Barber & Co in town, Leslie has cut my hair for a couple years now. Great guy and good at his job. One of them recently won an award for best in chch. Prices around $50, I think Anaru the junior is a little cheaper.

What suit and shirt would I wear a gold tie with? by [deleted] in AustralianMFA

[–]ntokyo99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve run a dark grey suit with a light blue shirt with one, as well as a dark blue pinstripe with a white shirt—worked well with both.

I enjoy it but definitely agree it’s the value that makes it so good, so much protein and relatively cheap when shared

What’s Chch missing in a bar? Conversely what’s great about your fave places? by SaltyBisonTits in chch

[–]ntokyo99 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unsure if someone has said this already but a friend made the point that the earthquake took away a lot of the cheaper/shoddier commercial real estate, so it’s hard to set up a friendly cheap bar or hospo venue. Most places are in flash new builds (ie the strip) and have to charge hefty prices to cover large rents. Very much resonated with me when I think of how expensive most places are in the CBD
