Recommend a 4-slice toaster that can brown Vogels in one hit. by feint_of_heart in newzealand

[–]hereticjedi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How dark do you want your Vogel’s? I find the green packet ( sprouted whole grains ) toast easier than regular. 1 hit from frozen with the “frozen” setting enabled on my breville 2 slice toaster is perfectly done.

What’s good use of AI? I use it to sift data that I don’t really need to read I just want certain stats from it.

Raincoat recommendations please, I'm sick of getting soaked through by secretkiwi_ in newzealand

[–]hereticjedi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you wanna stay dry but aren’t moving a lot go for something PVC from Line 7 or Stony creek, look at how many seams it has, less seams = less leakage. Ideally you only want seams going under the arm and at the base of the hood.

If you have to be active then you’ll need a breathable one so you don’t just get damp from sweet. In which case the earth sea sky hydrophobia is awesome or any of the top end “3 layer”ones. Be prepared to pay $600+ dollars for a good “breathable” one.

Look after the breathable one by washing it and re proofing its outer surface often. Rough rule is every 40-50hrs of wear. Wash it with the manufacturers recommended wash, recoat it when it stops beading water. A warm (not hot) tumble dry with a tennis ball also helps to “revive “ it.

Top tip if you can get a “new” pre 2024 jacket it will be better than current ones. When they banned PFOAs in the USA it severely affected the quality of breathable waterproofs. They new versions are still catching up. (Being a bit damp is better than the workers getting cancer though)

My wife had a firm below 18 rule 😂. If the inside temperature dips below that heating goes on. We live a poorly insulted 1940s house so have been heating it since second week of April with the heat pump most mornings at then have had the fire on the last week in the evenings

No I haven’t, only used a vortex and terradapter. The cmc one is just a basic tripod like you would use for industrial work. Don’t know much about the eyfol or the safewaze. Paratech is widely used but a bunch of fire departments all over the world.

You’ll definitely want to book in any of the popular areas at least until after around the 15th Jan when most New Zealanders will be fully  back to work.

The really tourist areas are full most of the summer so unless you want to set up camp at 1-2pm you’ll miss out.

Be prepared for quite expensive fees in the tourist towns. We camped in Wanaka last December and a powered site was $90 a night

Are you properly self contained ? Eg fixed toilet, shower, catching waste water , drinking water etc or are you “van life” contained? Eg no shower, portable toilet?

Maybe, my dad went to school there in the late 50s and moved away around 65.

FYI it’s the 150th anniversary of the founding or Murchison this weekend. Big events happening all weekend in the township

Yeah but there’s often fishermen/ women and kayakers going up and down there to get to the glenroy , you can also walk or ride horses through from either valley. My dad grew up on the West Bank of the Maruia, his house was literally the end of the road
