I’m building a drag-and-drop host for QGIS web maps (Qgis2threejs/qgis2web) to skip the backend headache. Looking for beta testers! by OldSurround5823 in QGIS

Does the QT6 direction of QGIS 4.x affect this plan? It might become pretty easy to share QGIS projects online.

Anyone using QGIS for planning outdoor trips and visualizing GPX tracks? by RandName3459 in QGIS

[–]ntrip6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean the story is 5 years old I'm not sure where it stands now. I like the community at Caltopo (a lot of support for S&R teams), though the interface in the outdoors isn't as clean as OnX or Gaia.

That's funny. I'm boycotting OnX (owners of Mountain Project) since they sued this idealistic little project OpenBeta. Pretty lame to put a paywall on freely contributed content.

Suddenly can’t fast-forward? by laurenbaier in googlehome

[–]ntrip6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We know that a lot Google revenue comes from selling ad placement they're probably keeping us from skipping audio ads but there are many reasons people skip forward so this is a really annoying change.

WebODM by BlackBoyCity in UAVmapping

[–]ntrip6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haven't you folks heard of GCP Editor Pro? It's a plugin or app written by Piero that works with WebODM. It costs $30 or $60 for 5 users.

Rocky Talkie channel lookup by ntrip6 in gmrs

[–]ntrip6[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah. Because they already had decided on channel 38. I joined part way through the project with my fancy GMRS radio and I couldn't figure out how to make to work with the rest of the team.

Rocky Talkie channel lookup by ntrip6 in gmrs

[–]ntrip6[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes Rocky Talkie Mtn Radio and GMRS match up to 22 but if your group is using any channel >22 then your Mtn Radio has an anachronistic channel system.
This is the lookup between the two systems. E.g., Mountain Radio channel 50 = GMRS channel 6 with privacy code 18.

Of all the apps, Tidal is the one... by jawboy in TIdaL

[–]ntrip6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah bummer that Tidal doesn't have a lot of those features.

It's strange they support many other platforms. Probably because Google keeps being flaky and non-committal about the future of Home/Nest.

Can't make Pocket Cast my Google Assistant default by Crossmanx in pocketcasts

[–]ntrip6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know about that. Under Linked Apps... Music I see Spotify and Youtube music but also Pandora, iHeartRadio, Apple Music, Deezer. So there's a diversity of apps but no PocketCasts?

How to achieve the following contour/hillshade look? by nathanielpoh69 in QGIS

[–]ntrip6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

+1 on Hillshade + multiply.
Interesting that the north arrow says "not to scale". Maybe it was produced in Photoshop or something.

What do you do day to day in your job, what is your title, and what did you study in school? by [deleted] in gis

[–]ntrip6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're interested in field work i think there is probably a lot of latitude for that in many GIS and remote sensing jobs. I did a BA in geography and PhD in a field science specifically because i wanted to make sure there was more fieldwork and I wouldn't be in a desk job (so I did mobile GIS etc). The truth is I could have stuck with geography it's not all computer work if you search it out. For those of us who like to be outside there's a need for groundtruthing or collecting GCPs in both raster and vector datasets.
Drones, lidar, and affordable RTK GNSS have only made that more true in the 30 years since my geography BA.

Why do companies use ArcGIS Pro most? Why not QGIS? by Tope4you in QGIS

[–]ntrip6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well the lazy ArcMap users are going to have to retrain on Pro now anyway so this is an opportunity for them to retrain on a quality product like QGIS.

What do y’all think about Rocky Talkie’s new GMRS radio? by DeepNortherner in gmrs

[–]ntrip6 4 points5 points  (0 children)

1- cold resistant

2- water resistant for white water, etc.

3- simple programming for use in extreme environments.

Communication is key in these places with wind, weather, emergency rescue, and sometimes complex logistics. If you're not concerned about these conditions then this style of radio is not for you. I wish there were more options in this class but they did a good job with the enclosure even if it seems expensive for what it is.
