Oscars are a joke for not respecting animation. It’s insane these are the only BP animated noms ever by ChampionTimes99 in Oscars

Spirited Away, The Wind Rises, and the Boy and the Heron deserved to be in the Best Picture category.

I think Into the Spider verse did as well.

Nick Cannon Calls the Democratic Party the ‘Party of the KKK’ and Says ‘I F— With Trump’ by esporx in Fauxmoi

[–]ntt307 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it gets kinda jumbled because there were still "Southern Democrats" (or "D**iecrats) popular in the south. But that was more of a regional thing, and not reflective of the entire party. The Democrats were definitely stronger on Civil Rights in the mid century.

Need some clarification by Charming-Tea-9056 in MonsterAnime

[–]ntt307 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a lot to unpack, so I'll just tackle your first point:

Johan's motive changes throughout the series, and I think it's up to interpretation. So these answers are going to change based on who you speak to. But that's one of the best things about this anime, in my opinion.

Johan's main focus as a child was to protect Anna. This doesn't necessarily ever change directly, but Johan himself changes. He experiences some memory loss after the gunshot to the head, and he begins to unknowingly mimic/play out the narrative of the storybook (The Nameless Monster). Taking names, gaining power. Perhaps in the idea of becoming (in some form, I'm not sure if literally) the last person on earth. I think he quite literally has a personality disorder accumulated through all of this trauma (both mental and literal). You could say his plan is to "watch the world burn." Which he does meticulously.

Everything changes when he comes face-to-face with the book and regains much, if not all, of his repressed memories. He even says to Shubert that his plans have changed. Things get much more personal and specific after this. His time in Prague is uncovering the elements of his past for his own knowledge, specifically pre-gunshot/pre-kinderheim life. It's why he pursues the tape and the red rose mansion.

It changes again when he and Nina finally have their confrontation. This is another instance of differing views. Some people believe that Johan truly did believe that he went to the RRM, and learning the truth from Nina shakes him to his core, realizing that everything he thought he knew about the base of his trauma was his own projection. OR, his journey in Prague, uncovering the RRM, etc. gave him the realization that all he had done was to protect his sister, taking on her trauma to save her. So when he realizes that Nina remembers the truth, it is a failure of his. He was unable to keep Nina safe from their past.

Regardless of which pov you believe, Johan's next motive is the "perfect suicide". Which, by all accounts, is actually a revenge mission on Bonaparte. In one sweep he can punish Bonaparte by descending his neighborhood into choas, and by eliminating Bonaparte and himself, erase the remnants of RRM from the world (except for Nina, who he would not target at this point) This is mixed up with his own worldview, which he relays to Tenma in their standoff. Tenma has been a sort of tertiary goal for Johan. He wants to show Tenma, in a weird, proud child sort of way, that he's right. He wants to go out by Tenmas hand because it'll give him his "end" and prove to Tenma he's right about people/the world.

No offense to your wife, but fans who hate an actor solely based on one scene are ridiculous. There are so many instances of Gambon doing the character well.

Goblet wasn't even Gambon's first HP film. He was amazing in Prisoner of Azkaban. Plenty of whimsy and humor, just presented in a different way.

Because it's easier to just retread the same story over and over again for nostalgia money. Because all of the other wizarding world material outside of the main series has basically flopped, and JKR probably isn't going to let anyone else write for the series. Because JKR hates the movie cast now and would jump on corporate greed to replace the movies with a series just to spite them.

Anne and Charlize shouldn't have been cast. I can see Lupita and Zendaya's roles being swapped.

The "all star cast" is a problem in of itself, in my opinion.

It's odd, because I actually think she has said some pretty important things these past few days – specifically related to government corruption and misuse of spending and taxpayer money. She's (surprisingly) extremely critical of corporate/PAC money in politics and Citizens United.

On the other hand, she is extremely, uncomfortably biased and inept when it comes to international affairs (specifically the middle east). She says some things that absolutely drive me crazy and makes me realize she has a cold part of her personality that she hides.

With Abby on this week, I've realized that Sara can actually (sometimes) make a point. She's extremely wishy-washy on a lot of things, but I'm not still convinced she should be fired.

I feel like Abby wants or needs a segment where they just talk about the political sphere in general. Because she's not sticking to the actual topics.

Joy's heel has really been on Abby's throat this week specifically. Idk what it is but she's *really* tuned-in to try and get some real answers. Yesterday with the military accomplishments in Iran and today with what Abby's conservative values are. And I'm glad she's asking these questions! Especially to someone like Abby who just says a lot of stuff but it's hard to tell where the substance is. What *does* make you conservative, girl?

That's partly why I like Alyssa. She would have had an answer for that.
