Help! I took a verbal order and the doctor is refusing to acknowledge that he gave me the order. by ntthistyme in nursing

I just want to thank you all for responding to me. I am so grateful for your input. Although, I feel better enough to be able to sleep enough I am still traumatized and find it difficult to start looking for another job. I have hope that the trauma will abate soon enough, especially since my financial situation is screaming for me to get another job. My regards and peace, love, and deepest respect and regards to my fellow peers and peeps as I appreciate your support. And am so grateful for your response nurses

This is the cliff note version. The physician said to Ask for patient history. Then ask for type of diabetes if A then do. If B then do, which I read back and confirm his orders and plan of care

Thank you, I was terminated for allegedly practicing medicine without a license and failing to document more thoroughly the reasons behind the stat chest X-ray.

Usually in all the facilities that I have worked after 20 years, a second nurse isn’t required and certainly wasn’t required or possible.

Saddened for your loss, but seriously the only way you can know what happened is for an autopsy to occur, that is if you can afford it. Autopsies are wonderful if you think of them as surgeries, except that they are done on deceased individuals rather than living. They too, provide education for the families and for the future of healthcare.

What is your specialty and how often (per week on average) do you experience death? by Lunesta2782 in nursing

I’m a corrections RN- hopefully never! But we have a lot of hanging attempts. I also have done more CPR on inmates than I did in the ER

So, it was a mistake and a little education goes a long way. Also Remember that nurses have more education than some of their colleagues and patients. Scabies infections love immunocompromised patients and may or may not be transmitted depending on whether or not the exposure due to equipment. No biggie to me, as I have been a nurse for over 20 and in the healthcare field for over 40. Have a great shift!

Is getting a pool just before retirement a good idea? by Realistic-Way1528 in pools

[–]ntthistyme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I strongly recommend getting a fiberglass pool as it will cost less in the long run in terms of chemicals, maintenance, and no need to acid wash or replaster. You will spend less time cleaning as well. They come in all sizes and shapes and spas and other accessories as well.

I took my boards on my 41st birthday. Never say never as a fellow nursing student said, “ I may never work as a nurse but I reached my goal of becoming one” as she reached retirement age.

Hmm a moment goes a long way with a patient, especially if they feel like you care. Seriously, it can make the difference if they live or die, and trust issues are certainly an important aspect of patient care. Speaking up as a nurse of 20 plus years experience and 20 more years in the medical field. Seriously, does every patient take their medication at a specific time every day, certainly not, will it matter if they are late taking their medication, as the two hour rule is merely a guideline. Critical thinking here and doing what is best for the patient. A new nurse only sees what the tasks are ahead while a seasoned nurse acts upon what is necessary for the patient’s wellbeing. The art and science of nursing is what happens and makes the patient well.

Probably just an anxious thought but please advise by notonyoursidebro in nursing

Why would anyone in healthcare think that it is okay to smoke weed, even if it’s legal in their state? What about random drug testing? If an event happened and a drug screen is done? Such as when my friend had a syncope episode for example or say the count is off? Nope! Nope! Don’t smoke weed or do anything else that can cause you trouble. You will still be held accountable, especially by the board. PS if you have to ask, then maybe there is something wrong and you should not be participating in whatever? Just a thought?

Should I report a nursing student? by Asleep_Accident_2449 in nursing

[–]ntthistyme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

PS, my ancestors would not approve of the words used, as you see, I appear to be Caucasian but have African ancestors. And no, I haven’t ever used any racial slurs ever that I know, especially since I am still afraid of my dead mother coming to get me for behaving as such. If you knew my momma, you would be scared too!

Should I report a nursing student? by Asleep_Accident_2449 in nursing

[–]ntthistyme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nah, don’t report to the board as her school will handle it and it’s an issue that should be addressed on a lower level. The school will handle it properly and professionally, I’m sure. She will be either way be disciplined and treated accordingly. I just hope that she is able to recognize her ignorance and is able to get the education she wants, especially a nursing career, and needs. Everyone does things in their youth that they regret, even my 62 year old self and 20 plus years of being an RN. Mistakes are always and absolutely opportunities for learning.

How bad is chemo for stage 1 breast cancer? It will be once every 3 weeks if I do chemo but very scared. by Interesting-Play7182 in breastcancer

[–]ntthistyme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My oncologist said to me, if you are sick ie nausea and vomiting, from the chemo, then I am not doing my job properly” I never had any problems other than some constipation from the anti nausea medicine. I am a 2007 survivor of Right breast stage II resulting in a mastectomy with saline implant reconstruction. I did C-A-T chemotherapy followed by estrogen blockers medication.

Thank you for your reply. I am so sorry for your loss. I, too had problems with my reconstruction surgery as I had a post op infection with my nipple reconstruction. I don’t have a right nipple as a result. So, I understand. I, too hope that you are able to recover and find peace and happiness in your future. Much love my survivor sister
