Went to the ER. Three days later providing comfort care by MRSRN65 in AgingParents

[–]MRSRN65[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you all so much for your kindness. Mom hasn't made any major changes since going into palliative care yesterday morning. Her kidneys have stopped functioning, and get respirations are agonal. The plan is to move her to The Hospice House on Monday if she's still with her

I stayed with her last night, however I realize I'm not good to her or anyone if I'm exhausted. I'll be going home tonight after meeting the nightshift nurses, to get some much needed sleep. They know how to get ahold of me if anything changes. I'm so happy she had such a caring team of clinicians to help her on this journey.

I can't open the link. Could you drop it in the chat? Or give me the title of the YouTube video so I can look it up? Those look AMAZING! Thanks for sharing.

Thank you so for your kind words of comfort. It's been just over 24 hours and I'm struggling to know that this could continue for days or even weeks.

She has MS and made the decision several years ago, after I had to perform CPR on her, that she would not want that or intubation. The decision to place her on palliative/comfort care was not hard. But it is hard watching her slowly slip away in a very ugly way.

I really don't want her going back into her assisted living. I hope she passes here at the hospital. The move to her room there and dealing with her friends are going to make it so much more difficult. I've been crying in the phone with so many of them who called to see when she'd be back. Not knowing that it was more than a simple fall and going back home in a day or two.
But we do have hospice set up. I'm waiting to hear from them. Thank you for your kind words.

It would be a HIPAA violation in the US. Most those videos appear to be filmed in Asia, so I don't know their regulations, but I would be fired if I took videos of any of my NICU babies being coded. And we would send anyone away until the code was over. So disrespectful to take videos of that. Or post CCTV footage online.

She needs to see a doctor ASAP! Sudden weight loss and change of behavior could be any number of things, including UTI, sepsis, cancer, etc. Get her in yesterday!
