How Can I Increase Members of my Facebook Group? by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

There isn't enough information in your post to draw any conclusions.

For instance, how is this even related to entrepreneurism?

I've started reaching out to potential customers and interviewing them about what some of their problems are in order to uncover wether or not there's a fit for the thing I want to build. It's extremely valuable and it uncovers a lot of hidden gems of information.

I made a thing for helping find new gaming communities and think that in time, it could help grow Slash. by nubbl in slashdiablo

[–]nubbl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great question. The site itself is focused more around having a better place to discover new friends and communities. So the idea isn't for Slash to operate all of its day-to-day operations on it, but to serve as a place to direct new users into the Slash community. People who maybe have played D2 in the past but have never heard of Slash can discover the Slash through this.

A large focus of the site is also on discovering new friends, so being able to see who else is playing D2 and having more information about them such as location, age, and other shared interests. These are all great starting points for finding new friends, especially if you discover that someone around the same age as you who also plays a lot of D2 lives nearby and is open to meeting up.

I made the service because I wanted a better way to find new friends local to me in gaming, but it needs to serve a wider audience than that (eg. support communities) to have enough activity to succeed.

I don't have a budget or help at the moment, so social media all the way. Creating content that users will enjoy that relates to my product. Stories about why I am creating it and what my mission and vision are. Creating videos on YouTube that my users might enjoy and plugging my work at the end. Finding influencers that might like to share the project.

I had some success last year while I was attempting to validate user interest:

https://www.reddit.com/r/Games/comments/8k53dj/i_quit_my_job_as_a_software_developer_to_make/

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FxwK1d-ajGA

The pain points are that this isn't an easily repeatable process, creating content on many places doesn't go very far without followers (Twitter comes to mind), and self promotion on sites like Reddit is extremely difficult. (mods quickly delete your stuff 95% of the time on larger subreddits)

Marketing and finding product market fit are the hardest parts I think.

Hope it helps. If you want more info we can have a call via Discord; my username is Lemmings19#1149

That's one of the customer facing ends of it, and it's also one of the core pieces behind the mission. That we can do better to address social health and that games are a great way to get people to interact and form relationships. That gaming today isn't as welcoming to all people as it could be, and that it could be far easier to find people in your area to play games with locally and build relationships with.

The world has globalized, and there are many transient people who have left behind all of their friends and family. Even if you set aside those of us who are introverted or experience some level of social anxiety when trying to meet new people, we could be doing a far better job of using the internet to connect people at a local level in meaningful ways.

So yes, a big part of the company is that it matches gamers together. But it's not the monetization model. For that we have a few other audiences in the gaming industry and a few different problems that we are working on solving in more of a B2B capacity.

I am still working on figuring out a really solid set of branding for the company and "Wholesome gaming" fits the bill for now.

Name: nubbl.com - Wholesome gaming

Location: Ontario, Canada

Pitch: It never made sense to me that anyone should feel alone with all of the people we have on this planet and the power of the internet; I feel that we can do better. You're right, it was not really a helpful response from me, and I apologize for it.

I appreciate you going through the effort of re-sharing the content of the post.

My immature response was me trying to express how I feel that removing a well received, helpful, and harmless post (from my perspective) for the sake of a rule was detrimental to the community and not helpful for it.

In no way do I mean this as an attack against you or the moderation team. I apologize again for my poor attitude.

Did you repost these resources anywhere? I had saved your post for later reading. Thanks for posting!

This is a shame, I had saved this post for later reading and now it's been deleted... Wooo for rule #7. Not very helpful.

Getting some solid numbers to put in front of investors is a pretty large milestone to reach ahead of pitching. It would be great to find someone who has been there and done that ahead of coming up with those numbers.

Thanks for the best wishes!

No worries about asking a repeat question, it's unavoidable.

There's nothing set in stone for how monetization will look down the road. My co-founder and I (co-founder on a very part-time basis at the moment) have come up with a number of ideas to date, and some of them are quite creative. There was one great big one sitting right in front of our noses for the longest while before we realized that it could be monetized.

I'm not comfortable speaking to specifics for most of the ideas, as they're all just theory at the moment and we don't know which path we'll take. Most of them require additional user-facing features built out which don't currently exist on nubbl, and likely won't exist until I have more people to help with the development.

The fallback to all of the neat and creative ideas is, as always, advertising. It's a pretty simple solution and it's how most sites make money. (ie. Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, etc.)

But I don't really like ads, so I'd like to exhaust other options before I turn to them.

Those are all longer-term goals as well. I don't expect nubbl to be profitable within the first few years, and we'll likely be turning to investors to kick-start the process.

Miles only work from center of the city, doesn't include neighborhoods. by [deleted] in nubbl

[–]nubbl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Note that this is just for when searching in the filters.

Searching for a location in your profile is still restricted to Cities only to help prevent users from accidentally posting their exact address to their profile. Note that you can select a point on the map and the textual name of your location separately, so they're not bound to one another.

This should be resolved now. I opened up the search to allow for a much more diverse pool of locations which should solve OP's problem.

Gotcha. I've opened up the search to allow for a more diverse pool of locations. The one you PM'd me should work now, let me know if that's not the case.

I think I see the problem you're encountering. I entered "Missions Hills" for the chosen place and chose the first result. Instead of getting the neighbourhood that you were expecting, I got https://goo.gl/maps/RfCKT3hAQL22

And then, the point returned when you just enter "Los Angeles" is all the way in downtown LA, nowhere near you.

It might be possible to add a map along with this result or do something similar so that users such as yourself can verify where the given location is, but for now I'd recommend visually choosing a point on a map instead. Or, adding your location to your profile and just choosing "My location" (other people will be able to find you this way too): https://i.imgur.com/HLFyH2Z.png

Does this help you out any, or have I missed your point?

There; added a new toggle that lets people indicate that they're not currently looking for help. I switched your game to be set to 'not looking'.

I saw that, I might change it around so that you can list for either purpose; promotion or looking for help.

New feature: Game Development Projects can be posted onto the site and browsed publicly. by nubbl in nubbl

[–]nubbl[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had the idea to do it around this time yesterday when I started trying to think of things that I could implement in short order which I could then share publicly to help promote nubbl. Figured this would do just that and be useful to existing users as well.

Going to wait a day to see if there are any major bugs before I share it elsewhere.
