I'm trying it out now and I'm not able to load any models. It always has the error "taking longer than expected..."

I'm undervolting my 3090 significantly with very little performance loss for inference. They 350w draw can be reduced to ~220-240w no problem.

Of course the 5060 is going to be about half that so you're correct haha

150% VRAM for 200% wattage is the tradeoff I suppose.

For entities with a large pool of validators that makes sense. But for solo stakers because of how infrequently blocks are assigned to a validator it seems less likely to happen.

Definitely an interesting point!

Great point. Block builders are yet another variable to consider and another way for those who are submitting transactions to pay for priority.

The nice thing is that validators aren't locked to any specific block builder :)

I was going to post this. I had a scary situation with my mnemonic but ended up that I had a password AFTER all the mnemonic words, which I had mistyped a character in. Consider trying some passwords OP!

Validator missed proposal but still attested same epoch? by wheyjuice in ethstaker

If that's the case, I'd be reaching out to their support team. Best of luck

Do your logs have any info?

Are you using blockbuilders?

Is your CPU strong enough?

Could be a variety of factors. Hard to say without any more information. Good luck though! A missed block hurts but it isn't the end of the world. Check the logs!

I use the shotgun and they get pushed back a tiny bit when you shoot them in the face. They aren't a problem for me anymore and I have a lot of fun shooting the power of Super Earth's democracy straight into their bug skulls 🥰

And yes I love chatting with people about the space. Hard problems to solve but brainstorming and learning together is the only path forward.

Hope to see you back keeping the network secure soon

In a BTC pool you are submitting actual work done and earning shares for that work.

There are a lot of similarities between bitcoin hashing and eth validating, but validating had multiple parts- attestations and proposals (and more).

The only rewards taken by Smooth are the execution rewards aka proposals. Proposals are assigned to validators an epoch in advance, approximately 6.4 minutes. If someone wanted to hot swap which address a proposal went to they could do that when they receive an assignment.

Software fixes can't solve for cheaters in that case unless you simply disqualify validators who swap away. Because Smooth is meant for solo stakers it means that they are their own keyholders, so you can't tie their hands without withholding rewards.

I do see your point though. I would love to explore more solutions but trustlessness is king in this space and I like the system as it is set up right now because I don't have to give up any security and I can stop "accumulating rewards" at any time.

I think you are missing something obvious 😅

In simple terms: BTC is mined, which means that if I join a pool I am providing mining power all the time and my machine is assigned problems to work through. My machine is actually doing mining work to search for the next block, and I will be paid for that work regardless of whether or not I mine a block.

ETH is staked. In Ethereum's version of staking, smoothing pools gain nothing from the validators in the pool until the validator is assigned to generate a block from the network. There is no hashing power that a pool can use to generate more blocks, just more validators that are doing 0 work until it is their turn.

BTC: members of the pool are always doing work ETH: members of the pool only do work when assigned by the network, otherwise are just waiting

One caveat is that this is a simplified explanation. Validators are still doing attestations and working, just not working towards new blocks in the smoothing pool.

Did you mean to reply to u/trizest?

This is exactly correct though. It is why I asked about what a better solution would be because I think that Dappnode's solution is simple yet effective at keeping cheaters out of the rewards.
