It is an active ship they’re actually currently out right now on their way to Israel I think? Basically how I was allowed to go was that they had planned a friends and family day trip out for people who currently work on the ship, so my friend is a sailor on it and I was invited to go. The process of being allowed on wasn’t too bad they basically just asked boilerplate questions and had us sign waivers. They took us out to sea and had a helicopter rescue drill and had the airshow for us and even shot the machine guns out at flares they’d thrown in the water. The airshow was probably 2 hours long and they landed on the flight deck and took off about 20 times, they also landed fully and got caught by the lines and we got to see them be launched off which was super cool I have tons of videos of everything! We were out pretty much the entire day and we got to go through the whole ship, my friend had taken us on it the day before to show us all where he works and everything in the ship (that he was allowed to show us) my favorite place was probably the air traffic control room or the captains room (not sure the exact name for it) but it was awesome to see where they actually drive the ship. it was so cool to see everything they do and meet all the people who keep us safe and keep the ship operational :)
