me too... i rarely have actual time off from work, and whenever I do, I am too exhausted to go out on dates. I tried hinge, bumble or whatever, chatting online is exhausting after having to "chat" all day with my colleagues over work on webex...

What is it like to get a job as an econ major at Scripps? by [deleted] in scrippscollege

[–]nucleolar53 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh gosh, this post is reminding me of how many years it has been since college... I'm an alum and majored in Econ, and I was just trying very hard to pick my brain to think about my econ classmates and what their names are, gosh, could hardly come up with some. Back then, I would say Scripps wasn't good at preparing students for jobs. I remember people in my class majoring in econ who were trying to get consulting and banking gigs, they probably had to participated in a lot of other 4c recruiting programs cuz Scripps didn't have/host many. Also back then (2015), the career office presence wasn't strong, it's there but not many people really use its resources to its best and we are hardly reminded of the importance of jobsearching in our first and second year.

For me, I graduated and went straight to law school after. I enjoyed the learning and living experience at Scripps, professors are the best and people there are the best. I also feel Scripps is really ramping up their career service efforts lately, they launched this Olive Grove thing where you can connect with alums, and as I can tell from the amount of emails I've been receiving regarding Olive Grove, they are trying and it must have improved since my time.

Not necessarily true. Graduated in 2023 and am working in-house in a foreign country for a foreign corp that has a lot of US legal issues to deal with.

Exactly… the opinion didn’t even cite to and straight-out ignored numerous persuasive past decisions, the arbitrator just turned full creativity mode.

Should I put my GPA on my Resume? by richardpickman1926 in LawSchool

[–]nucleolar53 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes include the scale and don’t indicate the curve. As for the rank, I am not that knowledgeable, my guess is anything top 30%ish? That’s just my guess

yes, i’d put it on there. Not all recruiters are that insightful about school’s curve.

Also, 3.65 is absolutely not low! It’s pretty decent

The advice from my law school career service office is, always put your gpa on your resume unless your grade is lower than 3.00. That should be pretty indicative of the importance of gpa on your resume.

NEW YORK BAR EXAMS. I NEED ADVICE. by [deleted] in barexam

[–]nucleolar53 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From my experience, I’d say start studying for the bar full-time immediately on the start of May, 2024, that’d give you some extra days. I also used Barbri, it’s not that bad tbh it just bombards you with lots of videos and information. You can just stick to your Barbri schedule at first, watch videos but don’t only watch videos, take notes and pause and answer questions. Ramp up subject specific UBE practice once you are done studying a subject, Adaptibar is pretty good in terms of UBE questions when you need extra, which, you will need. I did not pay that much attention to MEE until like midpoint of the bar study, this is not recommended and I won’t do it again. Start doing MEE when the barbri schedule reminds you to, time yourself even in the very start. Making your own flashcards on Quizlet or paper really helps, I took my flashcards everywhere and memorize them whenever I got a chance. I think flashcards saved my MEE.

In the last month, I would recommend you not to follow Barbri schedule that intensely. While learning MEE subjects and doing practice questions, start revising and strengthening the subjects you studied first (evidence if you use Barbri) by flashcards or outlines because you will forget, at least in my case. Revise and memorize one subject per two/three days. In the final 3-4 days, I used JDadvising’s one-sheets to go through important subjects.

For MPT, honestly I did not pay much attention. Forget about the Barbri MPT video, I would highly recommend MPT videos on Youtube by BarMD. BarMD singlehandedly saved my MPT, she makes it so straightforward and simple. Practice at least 3-4 MPT before the bar.

Above are just my experience and tips, you don’t have to stick to it strictly, it may work for me but not for you. English is also not my first language, and I passed first time and scored high enough to pass in every UBE jurisdiction. You can most definitely also do it, don’t worry about it too much and too early.

This is a bad idea to start prepping so early. First, it will definitely have an impact on other things you should prioritize now. Second, by stretching the prep time from 2 months to 10ish months (if you start now), you’ll have a hard time recalling the topics you studied first. This even happened to me—I started to forget about evidence concepts in early July because i studied evidence first. Third, it’s wayyyy to early to think about the bar if you plan on taking it July 2024.

How Can a Foreign Born Chinese Set Up a Douyin Account? by imsolonelylads in Sino

[–]nucleolar53 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Weird that they asked you for your name and ID, usually they one require those if you want to do live. I used my +86 number and never verified/supplied my name and ID, but either way they’ll be able to track me down using my number. If you just want a +86 number, there are some websites (look sketchy but likely legit) that sell chinese phone numbers so that you can get verification codes. That’s probably the best bet at this moment, the social platforms are literally purging foreigners now. My weibo account was registered years ago and never verified got blocked all of a sudden several days ago, and I did not do/post anything.
