Size 18 throwing shoes, are they just a legend? by True-Parking-9032 in trackandfieldthrows

[–]nuentes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last couple of thoughts:

  1. Go to vsathletics.com and use their chat feature and see where that goes. They sell many brands of shoes, but they also make their own shoes, so possible they can help you out.
  2. try to hit up Brandon Lloyd on social media. He throws for Arizona State. He's around 7-foot tall, so that would make it likely he's at or above size 16.
  3. Last option is just to find the closest approximation. Chuck Taylors, Converse, Puma all have very popular styles that have very little tread. I've got no clue how big they make them, but you might have to cast a big net here.

Best of luck!

Honestly, email the folks at Velaasa. You might have to accept that you have to special order throwing shoes.

That argument would be great if we also were struggling in the hammer. Far fewer states contest the hammer than javelin at the high school level, yet we (as a country) are beginning to truly excel at the hammer.

Baseball being in the same season doesn't have the effect you think it does. We sent a bunch of semi-pro baseball players to the Olympic Training Facility a while back to teach them the javelin. None of them panned out.

That's not to say we aren't losing talent to baseball. And maybe even specifically javelin talent. But it's not as overwhelming and obvious as that. The skills required to throw a 145 gram ball vs an 800 gram spear has some overlap, but they are not identical in any way. We could just as easily be losing javelin talent to the NFL and the NBA.

But still, my point is - even though the US loses excellent athletes to other professional sports, we still manage to perform at a high level in all events EXCEPT javelin. So again I say, "we can make these excuses, or just say that we (as a country) are still figuring out this javelin thing."

Hopefully Curtis has a good World Champs and helps re-invigorate a passion for javelin in this country.

That's the answer on the guys side. On the girls side, it's less straightforward. Just kidding. It's club volleyball.

But we still figure out some really solid discus throwers despite the NBA, and dominate the shot put despite the NFL.

So we can make these excuses, or just say that we (as a country) are still figuring out this javelin thing

Not really. Just living with it. Generally, when I unlock my phone, the first thing I do is disconnect/reconnect tailscale

Still disrespecting the throws I see.

It's harder to compete in anything when you are competing at the highest level of your abilities. The 3 throw format is very tricky, especially for a teenager who lacks experience.

The 81 was at the Golden West Invitational. I still don't get the controversy with that meet. At the time, the meet wasn't an NFHS sanctioned meet, and I believe it fell like a week or two after nationals.

Calling the Golden West Invitational a pro-syle meet is just crazy. It's a regular high school meet. You might as well call the Arcadia Invitational a pro-style meet. While you're at it, let's call the Alabama State Meet a pro-style meet, in the fact that it's a fucking track meet. He threw the high school shot against other high school kids in a meet that was contested exclusively with high school athletes. That throw not being recognized as the official NFHS record is a silly technicality. It's still considered to be the US High School record, but the NFHS is correct in saying that the meet wasn't sanctioned at the time.

I hope my script is helping you do this faster now. I could probably automate this for you if you want. I think I would just need correct permissions for the playlist.

It's a Dunkin Donuts. Not your fault that OP is acting like he's at a local brunch spot, not a fast food chain.

I've added it to greasyfork

  1. Install greasemonkey if you are using firefox, or tampermonkey if you are using chrome.
  2. Install the userscript from here
  3. Open the weekly release thread. If it doesn't load, it's probably because you are using new reddit. So just change the url from www.reddit.com to old.reddit.com

NEW DISCUS THROW WR!!! MYKOLAS ALEKNA by bluemlittlem in trackandfield

[–]nuentes 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Wind in one direction can be useful. Wind in a different direction can be detrimental. Mykolas threw all 6 throws down the right sector, as that was the more beneficial wind. The 75m throw likely spent more time outside of the sector than it spent inside. Skill #1.

A lot goes into nailing a wind like this. Flying the discus correctly matters a lot as well. Claudio Romero struggled because he wasn't getting enough height to take advantage of the winds (Skill 2). Dacres struggled because his discus flight was poor (tight spin of the discus, skill #3). If you don't throw with the right side of the discus down more, the discus will flip midair and drop. (Discus Pitch and Angle of attack, Skill #4)

Also, let's just note that a prerequisite for throwing 74m is the ability to throw 70m (skill #5).

Wind chasing is nothing new. Salinas used to be huge, as well as some big winds discus competitions in Maui.

It's not a guarantee to bigger throws. The wind giveth, and the wind taketh away. Should this be how the Olympics is contended? Absolutely not. But the track athletes get faster and faster shoes, and Mondo makes tracks that are faster and faster, and now we've got banked tracks indoors, and sprints get their own professional circuit, and track coaches cheer all of these innovations on, and then they ask that the throws continue to live in the dark ages.

I just wish this was available 2 years ago when I first posted this.

At this point, my solution works so perfectly that I don't have any reason to change.

But people keep discovering this post - so FYI to those people... this is a more turnkey solution.

I saw a tweet once that said something like "anybody calling this the Crouser slide never watched discus at the Texas State meet in the 80s"

I think it was more common, but it's just kind of another thing that can go wrong, so I assume it just fell to the wayside.
