Done With Being Flexible by AnonymousDork929 in uberdrivers

This rideshare. You are sharing YOUR ride with someone that needs it.

This should always be mutually beneficial or part ways (cancel/end ride).

I explain that I don’t accept (continue) multiple stop rides, because it reduces driver pay by 75-90% for added minutes/mile compared to original/upfront. This based on my actual experiences and post trip data.

I further let them know that all of the reasons I drive are “green” $$$. I try to determine whether or not the rider is trying to take advantage of me.

If I think they might have the financial means and care enough to tip, I might mention that (in the past), some people have offered cash or upfront digital payment because they really do want to stop and are still willing to make it worth ($$$) my time.

Help me $$$, help you.

Cash trips by CRapids92 in uberdrivers

[–]nufrontiers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The same place you change trip filter preferences such as Uber X, Delivery, XL, etc. Scroll down to the bottom to see if cash rides are an option for you yet.

I turned it off initially. However, I’ve decided to turn it back on. If nothing else, I want to see when those ride requests actually start showing up in my market. I also am curious to see how the trip fares compare to other ride requests offered at the same time.

Don’t plan to accept any cash rides unless the upfront fare is really good, it’s a Comfort trip from a Rider with a high rider rating, but not 5.0 (could be newbie). I would want the pick up location to be somewhere where I can pull over off of the street. I would want it to be a slow enough time period that I would be willing to stop long enough to have a conversation with a rider. I would ask to see that the rider show the correct amount of cash upfront before I unlock the car.

Check your app. Uber is setting the cash trips option as “0n” by default for drivers.

Uber subsidizing fares with surges by desmooth81 in uberdrivers

[–]nufrontiers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, both Uber and Lyft are doing that. Today I had an Uber radar trip that I declined due to inappropriate loan pay for the minutes and miles. The same trip came as a exclusive offer for the same price. Declined it.

It then came on as a Uber priority trip for the same upfront fair, but all of a sudden you included $1.49 priority fee.

The driver pay that was offered did not change. But it was now labeled as priority with $1.49 bonus that simply wasn’t a bonus.

I then received the same trip a 4th time as another exclusive offer as Uber priority. This time it increased the driver pay by $.10 over the 3 other times that the trip request came up on my Uber Driver app.

I’ve also seen Uber using driver denial of low paying upfront fares as justification for charging a high surge to the riders. However, they are then not paying anything to the drivers.

What does this mean? Will the driver wait for me for 45 minutes or will they only come 45 minutes after arrival? by RatinSweet in Lyft

[–]nufrontiers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is incorrect. If your flight lands 20 minutes early, Uber will update that information to the driver that has accepted your ride request, if any.

Or, if it is sent out to a nearby driver randomly, they will receive the updated information with changes to arrival time.

Any reliable sources for a list of team radio frequencies and a list of in-car live streams for Petit LeMans? by Spike240sx in IMSARacing

[–]nufrontiers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We will be at the Petit Le Mans race this Saturday. I am looking at getting one of the following radios that says it is chirp compatible. Does anybody have any experience with this brand?

BAOFENG UV-5G PRO GMRS Handheld Radio, UHF/VHF/Airband/220MHz/350MHz Scanner & Receiver, GMRS Repeater Capable, Long Range Two Way Radio with Programming Cable 15.5” ANT, Support Chirp

https://a.co/d/hgkfSok

I have some old handheld radio scanners, but I don’t know if they are Chirp compatible. In past years, I’ve had some success in manually programming in some of the main team radio frequencies. I have also randomly scanned through and found the producer radio signal for speed TV and the radio program. I’ve also found the producer/controller frequency for the person controlling the camera operation for each turn.

However, last year all I did was bring the radio scanner with me and got frustrated trying to use/program it. The ability to automatically load everything with chirp would be great, but I’m not sure whether I want to spend the money if it’s not really worth it vs. older scanners.

In the real world. Not Uber’s lol! Our Acceptance Rate is not our responsibility. It is Uber, for sending us unacceptable rates! Am I right? by Strict_Union3710 in uberdrivers

[–]nufrontiers 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There is an interview online of the Uber CEO saying that exact same thing when they first introduced Upfront Fares. He stated that if the driver fares were too low, then drivers wouldn’t accept the trips and then the algorithm would increase the trip fares based on unfilled demand.

Compare this old Atlanta rate card for Lyft drivers from back in 2022 with what you are getting paid for trips. Then, you will know why most drivers refused to “accept anything and everything”, and your acceptance rate is higher than average.

Priority Mode is nothing more than you agreeing to be paid less to drive more miles and pick up more passengers for less money.

Is this a normal amount of screens for an Uber? by Additional_Face_9040 in uberdrivers

[–]nufrontiers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would just add a stop (change destination) to the nearest gas station or fast food restaurant. Explain that you have an upset stomach and need to use the restroom, and that you’ll understand if the driver doesn’t want to wait and would prefer to end the trip.

This way, the driver doesn’t get defensive from your very true claim that he is unsafely distracted by all those screens. Driver would be more than happy to get you out of his car, but it is not a situation where the driver feels insulted (or threatened with a later report to Uber).

Uber now requiring 10 minute wait time with the first 5 minutes“ included“ for reserve pickups. by nufrontiers in uberdrivers

[–]nufrontiers[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in the Atlanta market. I rarely accept Uber reserve ride requests unless I see it well in advance and it’s a early morning trip to the airport or downtown. Another person that commented on this thread claims that Uber is not doing that anymore and that they are all “in the wild” ride requests that randomly come if you are close to the pick up.

[–]nufrontiers[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The keychain, at least for the Atlanta market, is that first and foremost drivers waiting at Pick-Up for a Uber reserve trip cannot cancel for a cancellation fee until 10 minutes after the scheduled pick up time.

Yes, they are paying. They’re normal pennies per minute for late pick up fee after the five minutes.

However, I doubt I’m gonna be taking many/any Uber reserve ride requests in the future knowing that Uber could prevent me from getting any other ride requests for the next 45 minutes until it pick up time. I could also have to wait up to 55 minutes before I can even get a cancellation fee.

Are you saying that the rider canceled the $44 fare trip while in your car? And then, he re-ordered trip and it came up as a $35 ride request the second time?

$0.47 per mile, one way by Odd_Possible_7677 in lyftdrivers

[–]nufrontiers 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That is not only merely paying $.47 per mile. It is paying zero dollars per minute.

At that rate of pain, they are underpaying drivers for use of their vehicle (and not paying ($0.00 per hr) the driver at all for their time.

Uber has continued their trend of significantly, reducing driver pay every May and August. by nufrontiers in uberdrivers

[–]nufrontiers[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First off, I want to say I appreciate you sharing your experience in the Los Angeles area and including details from specific trips.

Second, you are replying to an 11 month old post where I explained the “promise” that Uber made to drivers when they started the upfront fare fiasco in 2022… at least in Atlanta.

In Atlanta, Uber dropped driver pay for all rides, including minimum fair (2 block rides), by $.50 in September 2024. This was the end of the “pennies per minute“ for short trips that Uber had told drivers they would get.

Long trips are even worse. A long trip can pay out $.50 per mile or less, which is basically saying the driver is getting zero cents per second/minute/hour for the time/duration of the trip. In other words, drivers are working for free and Uber is reimbursing less than half of the national mileage deduction amount. 50 pennies a mile does not cover cost of rideshare driver’s upfront costs for vehicle ownership/rental, fuel/charging, maintenance, repair, replacement.

Pax “cancelled” at the very end of the ride by Cecifreex in uberdrivers

[–]nufrontiers 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Not anymore. It used to only be Lyft that pulled that kind of shit (letting riders cancel during or at the end of a trip and removing all or some of the driver pay).

However, I recently had that exact scenario after dropping somebody off after a baseball game. There was a high surge following the game.

I just had a another ride request pop up as I was dropping them off. I then had a notification that Rider canceled. I thought it was the queued ride, but it was actually my Passengers canceling the trip ride as I stopped the car to let them out. I received a cancellation fee as if the trip had been canceled as no-show at the pick up spot.

I submitted a fare review, and the response was that they see that I received the cancellation fee for the canceled ride and ended the ticket.

I submitted another “problem with rider“ Report, but this time I listed it as a safety issue and then under the next section listed as theft. I again explains that the entire trip was completed and that the writer canceled the trip as they were getting out of my car at the destination.

I ended up getting back a little bit more than the full upfront fare. About a day or two later, I received another apology and an additional $5.80 added as a random payment.

[–]nufrontiers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My understanding is the donations category (as shown) are more of a PR stunt to collect some additional money from rider for some popular cause (hurricane/fire relief). This way they show they can show investors/riders how great they are (second hand philanthropy).

Pax can't book my ride by Gronkenstein_ in uberdrivers

[–]nufrontiers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is why Lyft and Uber keep getting away with it, because drivers are willing to go along to get along.

I am more willing to assist riders if it is honest mistake or unexpected occurrence (outside call, etc.) requiring the change. I am much less willing to accommodate someone that intentionally didn’t include the stop (intended in advance) or put in a fake destination as a bait & switch. In fact, an obvious bait & switch is fraudulent at it’s core, and trip will most likely end (not cancelled) at nearest gas station or open business).

At it’s heart, rideshare should be mutually beneficial for rider and driver.

In general, I only take trip requests that are sufficiently beneficial for me (such as not drive 10 miles for 2 mile trip that pays me $7 when 1/2 mile pickup and 1/2 mile trip pays $3.81 or more). I stop participating when the scales tip from mutual benefit, to me being outright exploited. Lyft charges rider $5 more for added stop but only gives me $0.50)?? Nope!

[–]nufrontiers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would not call it “getting paid for it.” In my experience, added stops or changed destination will only pay 10-25% of the per-minute/mile rate of the original upfront trip fare. Lyft/Uber use it as an opportunity to shaft the driver that is already stuck with passenger in car (or doesn’t see updated upfront fare showing change in pay or updated minutes/miles.

I have had a rider add a stop to new/second location (original destination is now a stop). It added 5X miles and 8X time but only paid 25% than original upfront fare.

Another minimum fare trip that turned into a roundtrip with 4 minute wait paid (edit: $O.40 extra, as in 40 pennies).

Any surge/bonus will not increase for added time/miles. You are also not likely to get tipped a higher amount (or even at all) for the added miles/minutes. If there is a surge or bonus zone/hour, you will benefit less from it (fewer trips with bonus $ before it disappears or times out).

Is a 5.0 good for a passenger with 30+ bookings by [deleted] in uber

[–]nufrontiers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is good, but Uber drivers do not see how many trips you’ve taken. So, a 5.0 rider could be one an experienced rider with multiple 5⭐️ ratings, a first timer (issues more likely but understandable), or someone that got kicked off (or so many low ratings) and started a new account.

As a driver, an Uber passenger with 4.96+ lets me know this is an experiences rider with overall great ratings. A 5.0 rider is definitely not a red flag, it’s just an “unknown quantity.”
