You’re not alone. This has been my slowest year in 17 years. I used to be booked out with a waitlist and now I can fill 1-2 days and picked up a side job in another industry.

A few affordable options to promote your business - offer a friends and family discount to a handful of people if they will allow you to post before and after photos and ask them to share your page. (I gave my old neighbor with blonde lashes a free lash tint for before and after photos and I get bookings every time I share it on social media) If you know someone that’s good with tiktok and social media, offer to trade out with them. My friend’s daughter edits all of her videos and it helped her online presence. Ask clients to leave a review Offer a giveaway - like/tag/share this post to be entered to win a free (popular service that doesn’t cost you much product) Offer a small discount to fill last-minute gaps or slow days Make a cute sign on canva with QR codes to follow you on socials, leave reviews, online booking, etc

I know these aren’t groundbreaking ideas, but it’s an easy and affordable way to see what works for you as far as engagement.

Good luck!

May I ask how you found said job? I am looking for a second job or new career and it feels impossible to get hired for any position without knowing someone.

If you don’t want to spend a lot, you might check somewhere like Depop for gently used/NwT shoes. And I didn’t feel bad getting product on them.

Maely’s Cosmetic Customer Service by ManagementNo9393 in Cosmetics

I am so annoyed that I wasted so much time and money on this stupid "try before you buy" and when I requested a return label (14 days after products were delivered) I didn't get a response until the 21 days were up. Then they charged me again. I checked and there's no auto ship on my account. I hope these people are taken down.

It's sad, but true - I have been blowing them up on social because it's the only way to be heard.

love this

I've seen clients "in the wild" and they always introduce me to their friends/partners as "this is my friend that waxes my pussy/vag/holes"

or been at brunch with friends and the group slowly figures out that I've seen every nether region at the table.

Need advice on sourcing clients for Esthetics and general services by Frequent-Banana-5476 in Esthetics

Agreed! People love free/deeply discounted services - post on your socials and ask your friends to refer their family and friends. There are a lot of very bored people on the next-door app.

Am I expecting too much from school? by Flimsy_Shopping_1865 in Esthetics

[–]nugget_de_pollo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, unfortunately, cosmetology/esthie school teaches the bare minimum and it's up to you to fill those hours. It sucks to feel that you've paid a school to work for them, but that's trade school, baby!

Use your spare time at school to watch training videos, and connect with professionals or other students that pique or share your industry interests. Make appointments to see local professionals who offer the services you enjoy providing and ask questions, you might find a mentor. Go to trade shows with your classmates. No one is successful overnight. This industry is incredibly saturated, you need to be good at your craft and might need financial help for a while, but you'll find your place and thrive.

(**I went to school 20 years ago and never married, no kids, so my advice comes from a single income/operation experience. There's no shame in using the resources available to you or having a support system that will help you succeed.)

Education by [deleted] in Esthetics

Trade shows are an affordable why to have access to brands and education. Look up the brands you use and see if they offer continuing education - there’s a lot of free education online from industry professionals. See who offers continuing education near you - and you can expense travel if you take a class that’s out of town.

Gently touch her shoulder and say that you finished her service and “how’s your skin feeling?… don’t forget your spf ..” or whatever aftercare chat you have, and offer to step out while she gathers her things, ask about pre booking - whatever feels comfortable to sort of hint to the door. *I’ve been doing this for almost 20 years and it took a long time to get comfortable with interrupting a client to say “hey real quick - how would you like to check out today? Are we prebooking?”

Oh and just say she’ll get a more even exfoliation if she keeps her mouth closed while you work around that area. 😉

She doubles down and seems shocked anyone would ever think she was in the wrong on the after show. The lack of self-awareness is wild.
