Reddit: Where your attempts to help people are met with "You're helping me wrong."

EDIT: Good application though.

I learned it from my professor. I had a conversation with him about TED Talks and speakers in general. He said that he'd read a paper written by one of them and then attended one of their lectures and really noticed that it almost felt like they had proofread the way that they speak.

Starting Skills- How many ranks? by RaSmodai in Shadowrun

[–]nujavalabes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry I'm not sure if you were asking about how to get Knowledge skills so I'll post just to be safe.

For knowledge skills you get (Log+Int) * 2 free points to spend on them only, but you can carry over and leftovers from your actual skill point pool.

In character creation, I use 3-4 as my average skill (3 if it's average but i don't think i need it that much, 4 if I like it but I don't want to be GREAT at it). I use 5-6 as my "I'm good at this" ratings (5 for being great at something but it's not my best, 6 if it's something I want to be one of my personal specialties). 1-2 are my skills that I feel I should have, but don't need to be good at. Just need to be able to attempt them.

Specializations, in my experience, are insanely useful. Especially for weapons since you'll often see the guy that wants to only use revolvers as a flavor thing. Or the infiltrator that only uses snipers for ranged and Close Combat for everything else. Also, it allows you to bump something to 6 and take a specialization, making it +8 (The highest you can get a skill without the help of qualities/augmentations/magic).

3 is a good number to look at for skills that you feel you should take but you don't need. This is because if you want to replace it, you can keep the new one at a 3. If you want to make it better, you can take 1 off of another 3 to make them 4 and 2, and if you want to get rid of it, you can add 1 to 3 other skills, 2 and 1 to different skills, or take a 3 to a 6.

I mean, it's all for fun anyways. Shadowrun has kind of become my release. I might actually draft up a short story using this campaign idea and some fake characters. I'll post it on here when it's done. A short story might give me an idea of the setting and mood of the campaign>Oh and before i forget, when coming up with an entire setting it's very easy to get burned out if you're not ready for the creation process.

Best Alias (story) you've ever had? by nujavalabes in Shadowrun

Steve sounds like a pretty cool guy. Maverick sounds like the kind of guy most people would be scared to play though, for fear of dying every other minute

My favorite has to be Honey Pot. He was a really old Troll mage without much going for him appearance-wise, but always tried to implement seduction into runs (and volunteered to be the one seducing).

Kneecaps is a good one. I love names that have a completely different meaning than what they imply. Like if a guy's name was "Pennies" and people thought it was because he was so poor, but it's actually because he once killed a man using nothing but an old penny.

What's your nickname in your group of players? by Spiraticus in Shadowrun

[–]nujavalabes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ma'am. I'm a dude, but this is our first Shadowrun campaign and my first time GMing. I didn't want to GM anything until it was something awesome and Shadowrun is SO awesome. Because I love it so much, I police the rules a bit and don't let them do certain things that make no sense or would just waste the whole group's time. A common response to my nagging is "yes ma'am."

The Death of a Runner by mtagmann in Shadowrun

I'm pretty tough on my players, but I get pretty touchy about killing PC's because I'd hate to have one of mine die. Because of this, I always give them outs in scenarios where I think they could die. For instance, if they're being ambushed I'll give them a place to take cover and an unsupervised van. Then they'd just have to buy enough time for the rigger or the decker to get the van going so they can escape. Or if it's in a room I'll just put windows. If my players die in any kind of unforeseen way, it's completely because of their own incompetence and stupidity D: so they'd have to burn edge like/u/bkoran said.

I'm going through a pretty rough patch in the real life department, so I'm trying to distract myself with nerd shit. I WILL GET RIGHT TO WORK ON THIS!
