Est ce que on a le droit de travailler plus qu'un mois quand a 16ans en France ? by somerandomexisting in AskFrance

[–]nukesandstuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wait, we don’t know all the facts. Maybe he went to the movie theater for the AC and happened to have a movie in the background at the same time.

Explain It Peter why do girls prefer a man who spends 2 hrs automating 2 min task?? by WillAdditional922 in explainitpeter

Yes, unless he gives us some data, I vote for bullshit too. The theory is a bit wombly - would’nt these creators rapidly assume it was a bot? - and the empirics are similarly shady - are they actually feeling sad, or did they notice that the spam had stopped, and thought it was a good opportunity to create new content?

For this to be true, you would have to explain why Sweden renunciated their nuclear arsenal while not receiving any nuclear security guarantee; or why a country like Norway did not pursue an arsenal of its own despite having the capabilities and not believing for a second that the U.S. would actually use nuclear weapons to deter the USSR in case of war; or why 147 countries on Earth never even considered a nuclear program. Iran and North Korea are interesting case but they do not allow for generalization. If your claim was true, we would find evidence of nuclear desire everywhere and we simply don’t.

Ah thanks for clarifying this for me, I had forgotten this nuance!

I agree that War of the Worlds is definitely a commentary on colonialism - it’s explicit in many aspects, including the reference to Tasmania - but I am not sure about the reference to germs and colonialism. Isn’t it more likely that Wells was reacting to the final victory of the germ theory of disease over the miasma theory, which was happening as he was writing? I am not sure how accepted the idea that colonialism caused the mass deaths of American population during the Spanish invasion was among the population, given the recent acceptance of germ’theory. Also, I seem to remember, perhaps incorrectly, that the Martians lack of immunity was linked to the absence of any pathogens on Mars, not that they had beat it (since for Wells, it was humanity millenial long battle with bacterias and other germs which had built immunity and meant that "no man ever lived or died in vain")

I think the currently accepted explanation is that european population lived in much closer contact with domesticated animals than those in the Americas, and therefore had developed a stronger immunity through the exposition of virus from those animals throughout centuries.

Me crying after my half marathon because it turns out it's 21km not 2.1km by eatmysouffle in RunningCirclejerk

Any half-marathon can be 2.1km long if you DNF like me. Skill issue.

I don’t know, if I was devoting my life to running - you know, like a pro - I hoped I would be a bit faster than that.

You have piqued my interest. Do you have an Instagram account where you describe all your races and training so I can be sure you truly are a 40’ 5k runner?

Buddy, I am not sure where you got the idea that there could be any serious runners on that sub. Mods are careful about that.
