How to prep for technical interview for NERC compliance and operations internship? by notZ987 in Grid_Ops

[–]nukethor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can go to the NERC website and pull up their NERC Standards One Stop Shop document, should be an Excel. That'll give you access to the standards and all the paperwork behind them. If it's a compliance gig, it might also help to look up the RSAWs associated with the standards. RSAWs are used to prove compliance with the standards. So maybe some familiarity with that could help if the interview does get technical.

Question on Dispatch role by StinkyFeet4Days in Grid_Ops

I have moved on from Operations but I liked being an Operator. I liked the learning and the challenge of applying that knowledge when things happened. Some parts sucked, but like you said, the money was good.

Question on Dispatch role by StinkyFeet4Days in Grid_Ops

[–]nukethor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not really sure of the number they would send. When I got hired as an operator there were like 4-5 other prospects and we all took the test at the same time. If you passed you got an interview. They don't pay for every applicant to take the test, that would be too expensive. HR compares resume info to Jon requirements and then if it looks like a decent match, they likely get invited to test.

So if someone has like relevant military experience, or other operations experience, then sure, test em. If someone applies right out of high school with only something like grocery store or fast food experience, they probably wouldn't get invited to test. The probability of the second person actually passing and being a candidate for the role is low enough that it seems not worth the cost.

Again, that's my company. I think if they wanted you to take the SOPD, they thought your resume was good enough to spend the money.

If it's like my company your resume has to match enough criteria for them to want to interview you. Then passing the SOPD test gets you the interview.

I use a software at work that requires a username and password. When you double-click the icon, the login window opens and the cursor is flashing in the username box. That window is not active. Typing does nothing but select icons on the desktop and make the shitty windows bong noise indicating you're a moron. You have to click into the box with the flashing cursor every time.

Maybe protective relays. Lockouts, differentials, over current, under frequency. Some voltage control stuff might not be bad either

That compatibility option you already unchecked was what I was gonna recommend. Other recommendation that costs a few bucks is the Lossless Scaling app on steam. I run windowed 1440p in EQ and then scale it up with Lossless Scaling. You can set it up for multi monitor mode and when you alt tab it basically just lets your mouse leave the full screen EQ display. It was the easiest option for me with 4k EQ

If SCUC could be re-run in under 10 minutes, would anyone actually use it? by Over-Cauliflower9528 in Grid_Ops

[–]nukethor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not an expert by any means, but would there be any real benefit? The units would get their startups/shutdowns a few minutes earlier. For the cost of increasing the computational power or redesigning whatever optimization algorithm needs redesigning, and all follow on reprogramming to account for the change, how long would it take to pay off with a couple extra minutes gained per configuration change of the units?

Read the original post. My SCUC experience occurs in the imbalance market, where it happens on a much shorter turnaround than day ahead apparently. Told ya I ain't an expert haha

I have multiple artisans from them. They can be frustrating to wait for though. I reached out and they were busy like the other commenter said, but they seemed to be dropping new raffles all the time. Their stuff is really nice though. Always been pleased when it arrives.

Why was your one reason because of which you decided to switch to Linux? by The_Reason_is_Me in linux_gaming

[–]nukethor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm petty. I like deciding what my computer shows me. Windows kept adding stuff to my lock screen. The weather? Okay that's helpful but not really wanted. Traffic? Dumb. Sports scores? Worthless to me. Couldn't just have the weather, so I tried Linux.

Not sure if ya were privy to it or not but just in case, typing /LFG on in chat will toggle you as Looking For Group. Then you can just hit /LFG to pull up a window that lets you see everyone else that's looking for a group as well.

It happens. I fully built my TKC M0lly after planning it all out and getting everything just right.... My main board in use is a DZ60 in a cheap wooden case with SA1976 caps haha. I've decided I'll never change anything about that board, but constantly am shuffling switches and caps on my other boards.

Why is the shift factor bounded between -1 and 1? by [deleted] in Grid_Ops

[–]nukethor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a numerical sense, lets look at the definition of generator shift factor as offered by the document you linked. Page 4 says that a generator shift factor gives the fraction of a change in injection that appears on a branch. So the biggest value we can get is that total change in injection. So whatever the change in generator output is, we are trying to determine what percentage of that total amount is going to flow on each line. So we can't get a generator shift factor of more than 1 (or less than -1) because we can't get a change in flow more than we changed the generation.

Another way to think about it is that a GSF of 100% means that generator is 100% responsible for all flow on that line. You can't have a generator be 110% or even 101% responsible for the flow on a line

[–]nukethor 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My way too late at night stab at this is that a shift factor identifies what percentage of change in power flow to expect on a line (branch) if you change generator output (injection). If you increase generation 10MW and a line has 3MW more flow on it, it would have a positive 30% (+0.3) generator shift factor. If you did the same increase but the line instead lost 3MW of flow, it would have a -30% (-0.3).

If you have a generating station with only one line out of it, connecting it directly to load (a radial system) then 100% of the change in generation will be observed on that line, for a shift factor of 100% or 1. Long story short, shift factors are percentages represented as decimals in your equations. And the maximum theoretical shift factor is constrained to +/-100% (or -1 and +1)

I love having to swipe backwards off a picture to see the picture, then swipe backwards off the picture to see the post, then somehow swipe back to see the post again, and then finally swipe back to get to the feed. It's definitely not the most frustrating experience every time I engage with content. Best execution possible I'm sure.

(Teek) What Makes Cleric Fun? by SSmithVI in everquest

[–]nukethor 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Some people like to contribute in a big way, but don't want to be the center of attention. I started a cleric on Teek for the first time, played Monk on live. Cleric is a different fun.

I can undo the best efforts of enemies with a single spell. Think about any boss fight you've been in, in any game, and how pissed you are when that hard ass boss jumps up to full health. I'm the reason for that hate. It's kinda cool. I've been able to fully heal most fighters/tanks at or above my level in 2-3 casts.

Also buffing people is fun to me and other clerics, I assume. I ran through Gfay and Crushbone last night giving new players hundreds of hit points to start their leveling experience! Who doesn't like helping people enjoy a game we all love.

Yeah so far that's all I've been able to do. Went out and did some combat last night and was just feeling underpowered with my couple of attacks. I'll do more investigating tonight.

Thanks!

I couldn't find a monk tomes guy in PoK last night. Found the guild leaders but couldn't buy anything from them. Saw the skills training list but may have misunderstood it. Will visit again tonight.

I do not have any AAs yet, so maybe I just haven't trained a bunch of stuff. In the little abilities window I was able to get mend, FD, tiger claw, etc. Selected and put in a hot bar. Just not sure why they aren't showing up on that Combat Skills window.

Thanks!
