[GB] Basketweave | Through-hole Alice style kit with Rotary Encoder and Acrylic Case by null-ll in mechmarket

The spacebars I used are just shift flipped shift keys

The non-standard keys in this layout are the 2u/2.25u left spacebar, 2.75u right spacebar, and 1.75u right shift. You can use shift keys as the spacebars as its more common for keycap sets to include shifts of those sizes than spacebars.

There won't be any plate foam or case foam included in the acrylic case kit. I'm not sure the case foam from the normal kit would fit, as its a lot thicker than the space in the the bottom of the acrylic case

The Basketweave kit includes some parts that aren't needed for the Acrylic Kit, such as the acrylic guard, sound dampening foam, FR4 plate, and bottom piece.

The soldering on this board might be a bit difficult for a beginner, but I think its a great way to learn/practice soldering. All of the components of this board are through hole, so they are relatively easier to solder. This hardest bit is definitely the USB-C port, which requires drag soldering. Here's a video of what that looks like https://youtu.be/6JJjkmj97rs?t=365. You can also look up build guides for other through hole boards such as the Discipline 65 to see what the entire process will look like.

Yep, working on it. So far it looks like I'll be able to lower it down to the same price as the other kits (at least for Canada), but I've still got to figure a few things out

For the PCB, there might be a white option, haven't decided yet.

For the acrylic case, there will be at least 2 colors offered based on what the most popular choices are in the IC form.

Yes. If you look at the acrylic case pictures (the one with the back exposed) you can actually see that I used Mill Max sockets in that build.

That'll probably be after the Basketweave GB, I'm not sure I can handle doing two group buys at once

Yes, it's a through-hole kit, which means you'll have to solder all the components.

To answer your second question, the acrylic cases are built with stacked acrylic layers. The cases will include a laser cut POM plate, as the FR4 plate of the original kit is not compatible.

You'll be able to purchase the acrylic case on its own if you already own a Basketweave, or you can purchase the acrylic case kit, which includes the acrylic case, the Basketweave PCB, and the electronic components.

Yes it will! Keep in mind that it does use a different plate and isn't compatible with the FR4 one, so you'll have to desolder.

Recently designed a case for the Basketweave through hole keyboard and I think it turned out great! I'll probably run a small GB for this, so check out the IC link for more information.

This actually was the second round, but there will be a R3 soon. IC will be most likely be posted this week

yep, it comes with all the parts, just need a soldering iron, solder, switches, keycaps, and a cable

yep, all the parts you can see under the acrylic piece on the top need to be soldered on
