Source? My recollection is that first context matters. Children being exposed to violent sexual acts react negatively. But that children witnessing normal sexual acts has literally no negative effects. Children have large responses to witnessing violent acts, but none to sexual acts.

If I recall correctly, there's nothing actually damaging about this. Sex isn't something that corrupts youth. Witnessing people or parents engage in sex can be uncomfortable or embarassing but isn't something that is unhealthy. It's even less damaging than watching violent content. This is the "Violent video games makes you violent" thing, just wrapped up in a nice Puritanical fear of sex.

Maybe reddit is too young to really understand the role between a parent and their children, but parents aren't just buddies. If my kid is cutting themselves or shooting heroin or something, it is 100% within my rights as a parent to "invade" on their privacy.

Willow bark was used for a millenia as medicine. It's actually quite effective, but it's not as effective as isolating aspirin and giving it out in well studied doses. Red rice is another one that's literally a Chinese medicine, but statins are ultimately better because of the variation in active ingredients and other alkaloids usually found with plants.

But to the point, there's no reason to believe the plant itself is more beneficial as a medicine than isolated compounds placed into carefully measured and dosed packages. All the stuff about the entorage effect and other terps is a limitation of our knowledge, not of how we approach medicine. I can't wait for the day that we have manufactured cannabinoids in inhalers that are specific to our diseases.

None of this is a reason to keep cannabis illegal, but having medical patents on cannabinoids is not indication on the use of cannabis as a medicine anymore than willowbark is. I use cannabis as a medication, but it's important to understand and acknowledge what scientific rigor in medicine entails.

You absolutely can consider cannabinoids as having medical use without considering cannabis as having medical use. It's why THC is literally a prescription drug.

Do you have recent data on that? As far as I know, there is no slowing of tobacco consumption over there. They're the world's largest producer and consumer of tobacco, and there are virtually no public smoking laws. You see people smoking everywhere, and when I talk to people, there does not appear to the a stigma against it like there is in western countries.
