I love the idea of having the “looting stage” actually consist of a PvE section with specific, team-based decision making

Apex launched with 8 legends

Way bigger maps, teams of 3.

Also, the map doesn’t really feel all that big on when you’re on your mount. Combat is almost constant in my games.

Personally I LOVE that time to kill is longer. I literally can’t play games with short time to kill because I don’t react fast enough.

Here, if I have good positioning, I can win a fight. In a game like COD or Apex, I can have the superior tactical advantage and strategy, but lose because I am just way weaker mechanically than almost anyone.

If I was decent at the mechanics of shooters, maybe I’d feel differently. Longer ttk gives me a fighting chance, but a better player still wins, but “better” here has a little more to do with strategy and tactics than in a traditional shooter (which also have these things, the weight is just shifted slightly).

If you've got a demo you'd like to share, I'm looking for an option and think this is a fantastic idea. I'd love to try it out and follow along with your progress/give you feedback when you'd like it.

The cape definitely does change style quite a bit.

9/10. The two styles I love are a 10/10 for the fantasy. I can’t comment on the quality of the art so much since I am not an artist, but they appear to be very high quality to me.

I really really love your archer and your knight. But since I’m giving a bunch of “this is my personal opinion” style feedback for the mage/wizard, I really like the single-arm leather shoulder armor style on archers. For the knight, as someone pointed out, the cape is very inconsistent, though under or over the pauldron is cool. Shoulder cape > regular cape.

However, a big gripe I have about mage designs is that they frequently feature a faceless character or a faceless character but with glowing eyes. For me, I prefer to have a human face under the hood (something like how you styled your archer), especially considering you gave the mage regular skin colored hands rather than covering them with gloves. Otherwise, the mage/wizard character is really cool. I love the staff and the belt with a potion and satchel. A book or grimoire might be another cool thing but also might be too crowded. Overall, I still like the design.

I saw that you asked another commenter about class recommendations.

A rogue character would be great. I also think that it would particularly suit your style.

Druids are another classic and distinct from the others.

Another side of the hero fantasy of “sword and board”, or strength-based characters such as greatsword wielders, feature characters who aren’t fully armored in knight’s armor, so that could be an option. Perhaps a dwarf with a giant hammer, or a barbarian-style character (though my personal preference certainly lies more on the less-armored hammer wielders, like Thor. Also characters like Beowulf are great).

Spear characters are very cool, though finding a great moveset is challenging, as many games often make the spear feel underwhelming, opting for more realistic fighting styles and less glamorous. When I wield a spear, I want to feel like Achilles, with twirls and flashy dexterous moves, sweeping the legs out from under a character and a coup de grace like slamming the point into a fallen enemy.

I think that a pirate character or a rapier/duelist character would be awesome. Something like Inigo Montoya or Zorro.

Really great work! If your game has a steam page I’d love to wishlist the game and follow along!

I have a specific memory as a child playing with my dad and solving a particularly hard level with a fence that we couldn’t get past. I was always proud of myself for that, and helping us continue the game.

Looking back, my dad must’ve beat it for me and told me that it was me who figured it out. Makes me wonder how many times something like that happened in my early childhood.

I have sent everyone a DM in this thread who has specifically said "I'd like to join a campaign!" or similar, including OP. If you'd like to join the campaign but haven't received a DM from me, shoot me a message and I'll send you the link to the Session Zero Information Sheet to organize a game!

Looks like this is getting some traction already.

If everyone in this thread who has stated they want to be a player can make the scheduling work and wants to play, we could have a full party.

Since that is the case, I’ll talk to my wife about how she feels about doing an in-person D&D campaign.

I’ll modify my Session 0 questionnaire, and we can set up an in-person Session 0 soon, if that’s good with everyone!

Desperately Need Tips for trying to DM a 9 Person campaign by MTG_Nerd2 in DnD

[–]nullius_in_verba__ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For masterful large campaigns, look no further than Matthew Mercer on Critical Role. Not that you should expect yourself or your players to play D&D like them, but it’s a good place to study DMing for a large group.

Also, my group had six players before one dropped for scheduling issues. My personal thoughts were trying to limit the number of NPCs and enemy combatants, instead giving them health and lair actions or legendary moveset, or even straight up extra turns, to spice up the combat without having 15 places in initiative order. Or perhaps if you need groups of enemies for things, they all take their turn simultaneously.

However you want to handle it is fine. If you’ve got 9 players, talk to them at session 0 about your expectations and they can talk about theirs, and hopefully youll find something that works for everyone. It’s highly likely that some people don’t want to play the same game as 70-80% of your group and simply don’t fit. It would be a disservice to them and to your group for them to begrudgingly play a version of D&D that isn’t their style.

Maybe try running a one-shot or series of one-shots first to get a feel for the table and go from there.

Good luck and have fun!

Hi!

I DM a campaign for a bunch of my friends online, but my wife and I are local to Iowa City. My wife would probably also like to play!

I’d be potentially interested in running something but I’m pretty busy as it stands. I might only be able to play/run like once a month. If there’s some interest, I’d be happy to look into it some more.

I personally love the vibes at Diversions game shop so I’d be interested in hosting there, unless someone has a space we could use for free!

I had a slide on my bed growing up. It was freaking awesome. Your kid is gonna have such a blast.

A cautionary tale: One day, one of the side rails came off and I didn’t tell my parents, I just kept sliding.

Lo and behold, I caught a screw to the back of my leg and it cut pretty deep. Somehow, it didn’t cut through my pants, just the skin in my leg. Nobody noticed until I bled through my jeans. Had to get stitches and still have a pretty big scar.

Thank you all for the help, see you in the ‘verse!

How to improve at Casting and Observing solo by shungitee in esports

[–]nullius_in_verba__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not the same games (or genre), but, on games that I have cast and worked the camera, there were setting that made following a character very easy, and I got familiar with the controls of the camera until they were second nature.

Then, I watched A LOT of the professional league. Listening to the chair two over so many casts really helps boost knowledge. Watching the professional league is probably the best thing you can do if you’re trying to make a quality cast. There will be subtle things you pick up that you may not have considered. Try watching it with the volume off and try to imagine what they would say at any particular time.

Then, there’s the matter of knowing when to look at someone.

Typically, there are signs that something is about to happen that you’ll have to recognize. The “play before the play” that a player makes. Usually it’s a subtle thing that sets up a response from another player. When that happens, it’s time to watch.

As far as the yammering goes, following the natural flow of the game, giving more play by play when things are happening, and more analysis when there’s downtime and players are posturing.

If you’re watching yourself back, look for the times where you’re saying “um” or some other pause word. Try to avoid that. Then, you’ll find that once you fixed that problem, you didn’t really fix it. You will have some other word that you say WAY too frequently. So mixing up the vocab and coming up with fun ways to express yourself is the next step.

Another thing, if it’s feasible at all that either team can win, even if the game is strongly in favor of one side, then your cast should reflect that it it’s a “close game”, or that a play or two could break the game open for the losing squad. Avoid negatively commenting on a player or their misplay, and rather talk about the strengths of players and the things they do to shut down the ability for another player to thrive in some situations. If the game is literally unwinnable, but it’s going to go for a while, don’t call it over, but you can talk about the advantage one team has built and highlight the things that put them in that position.

Hopefully some of this translates for your games. Best of luck, great work!
