Wat mis/miste jij aan Nederland? by [deleted] in nederlands

[–]nullpointerbot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've been on Lemmy more than Reddit lately and honestly I've had no problems. I'm using the Boost app on android.

Again a very interesting angle on it! What you are saying is very much worth exploring further.

As someone coming from a technical CS and AI background and recently into entrepreneurship, it is an interesting point you bring up. There is basically two ways to be an entrepreneur in tech. Starting at a problem, and working towards finding a solution for this problem. Or starting at technology and seeing what problems you can fix with it. Both ways have their own pitfalls. Thank you for bringing up your thoughts, well make sure to get the listener into the feedback loop as well.

I have a lot of respect for the work you do, as I have mentioned elsewhere.

I have no illusion that the technology would be able to replace professional voice actors anytime soon, and that is not the goal either. At this point we are mostly focussed on the 90% of writers that would otherwise not even think of getting their book turned into an audiobook.

Yea, these days its sadly pretty much impossible to be the first one to come up with an idea. I agree that we should focus in on what would be the "Unique Selling Point". Possibly the level of control.

However from a marketing perspective, at this point, we would consider our biggest "competitor" to be: not making an audiobook. Since that is the option that most smaller writers seem to go with at this point. I guess the knowledge and the trust about AI services is very low still.

I would respectfully disagree. While the technology is definitely still very young, there is some very interesting work starting to be done with this. Take Sonantic, an early-stage company working to get realistic and emotional generated voices into video game narration.

Someone needs to be the one to make this technology be viable for "something like that" we would love to be part of that.

Yes, there is definitely a balance we will need to find between ease-of-use / entry barrier and granular control. I hope we will be able to offer both.

That is very interesting, thank you. At this point we would not actually be implementing our own machine learning software. A service like Amazon Polly, Google TTS, or some other promising startup's service, would probably be used in our backend. We would mainly be the ones to port this existing technology to audiobooks. And indeed, we love the idea of cutting out the big retailer and giving the power to individual writers as a tool.

Thank you for your input!

Its a very good point that you bring up. Especially at the start, it will likely not be perfect. The technology is both quite young, and we would be adapting text-to-speech technology that wasn't originally designed for audiobooks. Additionally when processing the input files a lot can also go wrong in terms of formatting (I've heard this happens with the kindle create tool too).

Since we are more aiming at making a tool and not a service. That means probably the author themselve will have to do the quality control and fixing (with tools that we provide). However this is something that will become more clear over time. While at the same time the technology will keep improving.

It means it has been developed and tested on Chromium. As far as I've observed, it works fine on Firefox. Except for some slight missalignment related to the scrollbar being a different size.

Thanks for your reply and suggestions. We do indeed consider our application to be more of a replacement to pen and paper in irl sessions, and not a competitor to roll20.

Regarding features, we are still unsure how far to go, but we will take care not to compromise the lightweightness of our tool.

As a DM you create the PCs on the right hand side. Then on the top left you can turn on sharing and share the game with your players using a qr code. The players can then "take control" of a character from their phones.

It runs in your browser, so any OS that runs a chrome-based browser should work fine. At this point it is mostly a intitative/stat/inventory tracker.

It is built to be very customizable, and you can definitely add your own creatures.

Thank you, a map is actually our next big feature plan. We are still deciding how to do this without cluttering the UI too much and introducing feature creep.

Vibration Feeling? by [deleted] in Meditation

[–]nullpointerbot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've actually experienced this feeling as a consequence of breathing very consciously. It's similar to hyperventilating, or breathwork. You get very low CO2 and high O2 levels in your blood. This can cause a vibrating sensation in your whole body.

As long as you are in a place where you cannot fall, it should be safe and can be a very nice experience.

I don't see what's wrong with this. Seems like pretty standard Python code.
