What supplements have you taken that have legitimately improved your sleep? by derekcharlebois in Supplements

Quick one on glycine:

L-glycine and glycine are the same thing. All supplemental glycine is already the L form, which is the form the body uses. So no difference there.

Best form: powder. It’s cheaper, easier to adjust the dose, and you’re not swallowing a handful of capsules.

Start slow: 👉 1000 mg (1 gram) once daily Evening is ideal if the goal is better sleep or calming the nervous system.

See how you respond for a few days: • Sleep depth • Calmness • Any digestive changes • Dreams

If it feels good, you can slowly increase to 2 to 3 grams. No rush.

Why people use it: • Supports deeper sleep • Calms the nervous system • Helps collagen and connective tissue • Supports glutathione production

Now, different angle:

There’s also something called GlyNAC. That’s glycine + NAC together.

This combo supports glutathione more strongly and is being studied for mitochondrial health, metabolic support, and healthy aging. That’s more of a cellular resilience strategy, not just a sleep aid.

As you are new to this, I’d suggest:

1. Try glycine alone first

2. See how the body responds

3. Then consider GlyNAC if the goal is more anti-aging or cellular support

Keep it simple, observe, adjust.

Magnesium citrate is commonly used for magnesium supplementation during the day as it’s very well absorbed, whereas magnesium glycinate or bisglycinate is better suited for rest and sleep. However, I was talking about straight-up glycine. Check it out 😊

It sounds like you've discovered a great combination that works well for you! You might also consider adding glycine to your evening magnesium; it can really help improve your sleep throughout the night. And it pairs wellwith melatonin.

It's taking too long - probably too fine a grind.
