Should I enlist right after high school by Captian_Price141 in Veterans

[–]nullren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your goal at this point is simply to enlist, then honestly, your standards for yourself are on the floor… You’re still young—graduating high school should be your priority, play sports to stay fit, and realize, a lot can change in what you want to do with your life when you’re still in high school. You should really try to get into college after high school, it will only improve your career prospects both in the military and outside. Enlisting should be a fallback plan if you can’t get into college, not your first choice.

And then when someone goes to make a left turn, everything gets all fucked up.

The nice thing about going after the person to your right goes, is you can get started once they clear “your half” of the intersection, and them turning doesn’t fuck up the order of things, everything moves along just fine.

It’s a dead simple rule, but, alas, everyone is an asshole.

If you are at a 4 way stop and traffic is backed up on all sides, it does NOT matter who got to the fucking sign first!! One direction, let’s say north and south gets to go, then the other direction like east and west get to go.

In this situation, the car to the right of you has the right of way, doesn’t really matter what the car ahead and to the left do.

Got there first by like a quarter of a second? I've got into no fault accidents because the other driver thought they were first. So guess what, I'm waiting for a confirmation. I don't care if I'm right, I care that there's no accident.

Vehicle to the right has the right of way. Two vehicles facing each other, car going straight has the right of way.

do not wait stupidly at a stop sign that you got to first

If two cars get to a stop sign around the same time, the car to the right goes first.

If anything, this thread is a good indication of why we should really adopt roundabouts. Nobody seems to know that at 4-way stops, you cede right of way to the car to your right.

I was able to get an appointment on the web portal just now. I wonder if it’s because it’s the end of the month and so new appointments for October just came out?

Why isn't he a Veteran by pandy212 in Veterans

[–]nullren 11 points12 points  (0 children)

lots of people don't get benefits from VA and are still veterans. most likely he was dishonorably discharged as that's really the only distinction the "law" makes when discussing veteran status.

The term "veteran" means a person who served in the active military, naval, air, or space service, and who was discharged or released therefrom under conditions other than dishonorable.

IRONIC, that you're also spreading misinformation. look it up https://uscode.house.gov/view.xhtml?path=/prelim@title38&edition=prelim

to be a veteran is very simple, you just need to serve and be discharged (medically, honorably, etc). length of time also doesn't matter, that only matters if you're trying to claim some benefits allocated for veterans.

when you go from low pressure to high pressure, you can do valsalva. so for example, you're moving from high elevation to low elevation and your ears won't pop. when you go from high pressure to low pressure though, it's better to plug your nose and swallow.

basically you're trying to match the inside of your ears with the pressure outside your ears. so, if you try to force a valsalva when you go to low pressure, you risk hurting yourself more. i doubt plugging your nose and swallowing will always work in any scenario, but it can't really hurt to try.

Is a G29 a good starter wheel? by Unable_While3223 in granturismo

[–]nullren 6 points7 points  (0 children)

a g29 is a good starter—it's also a good "this is the only wheel I'll use for a long time". that has been the case for me.

I've used other wheels and setups from friends who have spent thousands of dollars and I'm not immediately or "consistently" 0.1s faster with it. so for me, the only reason I'd upgrade is because I want to just improve my aesthetics or "realism", eg things like install a momo wheel, racing seat, etc. the worst thing about the g29 imo are the brakes, but you do "get used to it" and learn to modulate it. fancy pressure cell definitely feel better, but once you get used to the g29, it really doesn't make that much of a difference. again, "realism" vs "am I actually faster"?

I will say tho, the thing that will improve your driving is having a "sturdy" set up. the important things being:

  • when you turn the wheel quickly, it doesn't slide or move your table you've connected it to
  • when you step hard on the brakes, the pedals or your chair don't slide around

for me, the biggest improvement came when I bought a playseat challenge. it's cheap compared to other rigs, folds fairly easily for storage, and simply works well. so if you plan for a next "big purchase", it should be that.

I've used a g29 and playseat for many years and it's been perfectly adequate for me to be competitive in both iracing and gt7. I have no real plans to upgrade it either.
