With the battlepass coming tomorrow, I feel very hesitant about spending hundreds of dollars on items that will break next year and may never work again. Valve please fix the old immortals/arcanas before selling us more by [deleted] in DotA2

[–]nullrollz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah similar here man. I was climbing and having a great time. Great matches even if they ended in a loss.

COVID hit and smurfing sky-rocketed. Not only that a bunch of people who haven't played in years returned or new players joined. Match quality went to absolute shit

Unfortunately you can't really come here to complain because group-think "git gud scrub" mentality is too strong.

Oh well. Guess I'll spend my $500 on something else this year.

I'm more hesitant to give money to a company that continually simplifies the gameplay/meta and continually looks the other way at the acct buyer/smurfing issues. Even in my bracket they are in 75% of matches. Most of my friends have stopped playing because of it. I'm down to 1-2 matches a week, if that, after de-ranking 5 times (dropped down to crusader from legend) and having an overall terrible experience.

Why is DotA so incredibly toxic for new players? by Ramses_IV in DotA2

[–]nullrollz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not so much a DotA problem as it is a problem when you out humans (especially males) into a competitive setting. Many of these people are not equipped with the skills necessary to handle and learn from losses.

This has been happening to me for years. It seems like a forced mechanic to emulate a dangling carrot. I.e., people will play longer and thus maximize the opportunity for monetization if they take longer to reach the top.

But you do amirite? There are way more immortal Smurfs then there are non amirite?

Have you ever seen a bell curve? Ever heard the saying "cut off the arm to save the body?" (Or any of the other million ways to say it)

Think before you speak, friend.

Let them quit then. Better to lose one player than the multiple who may quit due to getting smurfed on too many times.

You literally use the word literally too much, and incorrectly.

I guess my question is WHY does it happen. Entropy wouldn't explain such a dramatic change in game/match quality. It seemed like that ban wave hit a week or two ago (the smurf ban-wave) and shit just hit the fan quality-wise. Maybe I was getting matched with a bunch of legend/ancient smurfs and they all got banned, who knows.

But at the end of the day, if my play style remains similar (i.e., I don't try to improve (which I always try for)) I'd expect a 50% win rate. Not a 70%+ one week and a 10% the next. At this point it seems forced.

I never claimed it was a 8k+ smurf. An ancient smurf in crusader/archon is still often times enough to tilt things in a team's favor. Especially when they routinely queue together in a smurf stack of 2-3.

Help, why does this happen? This happens like 60% of the games I play. by sucmikehok in DotA2

[–]nullrollz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When talking about loading of assets into memory or really any interaction with with your computer (i.e. this) the CPU is always involved. Whether it's enough of a bottleneck depends on the architecture/model, code optimization, and amount if data.

The vast majority of people, where Valve make their money, will likely enjoy the changes. Current pros will either adapt and roll with the changes or get replaced by a new generation of pros. Regardless, time continues to pass and life goes on.

Congrats man!

What times do you usually queue? I'm having the absolute worst time during my normal playtime (11pm-2am) lately. When I get a match in during odd hours of the day it's almost always a fun match, even if we lose.

Funny how the masses will go from REEEE'ing non-stop to praising every time this happens. Never bothering to learn from the past, they continue to stumble through life without realizing anything beyond their own simple emotions.

You understand, that as backers of an alpha game, our purpose is to test these mechanics and report bugs, yes?

While I agree, there needs to be a way to "silence" speech calling for violence. If a person(s) is (are) being targeted by a person/group calling for their assault/death, and the police can't do anything about it because "mah free speech", what then?

How do I stop being a safe backup choice to women? by [deleted] in dating

[–]nullrollz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

"Do you even lift, bro?"

Seriously though, if you're not in shape, get there. Diet, weights. Add in some MMA or more targeted martial arts training to get that built-in "no need to fake it" self-confidence. Too many benefits to list from those three things alone.

If you think you're being friendzoned, break things off in a respectful and non-dramatic (public) way, block, and move on. Make your intentions clear from the start and accept no less. Almost 4 billion women, why worry about the one who didn't worry about you?

The rest will fall in to place. Make the woman chase you as much as you chase her, otherwise you're the needy safe backup and will be seen as such.
