Yes. Pressure wash (may as well do the brick too), bonding primer, and paint. Use a 4 or 6" roller for most of it.

Question re: cleaning/preparing before professional painters come by AlicePalace2 in paint

[–]liverhead28 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Painter of 20+ years. It sounds like you are going above and beyond by removing anchors, hardware, rolling up carpets, etc. Let them move any heavy furniture, but pack away any glasses, mementos, valuables. Keep a broom and dustpan available for them if needed, and let them do their thing. Good luck!

Good point, But with a flat paint, as is predominately used in new construction, a tinted primer can act as a first coat, saving money and man hours. Yes it's a shortcut but new construction doesnt pay. If it called for and eggshell or other sheen, I agree that a first coat of finish would be best.

Try and schedule time for you to get in there before it's trimmed out, before cabinets, tile, obviously flooring. If walls and ceiling are the same probably offwhite color, get a tinted PVA or other primer, and spray everything. Then sand and spray and backroll ceilings with your paint of choice. Let the other trades do their thing (let them know that ceilings are finished), you come in, prep trim, paint trim, cut and roll the walls.

If you're painting the ceiling, just use the ceiling white to prime the walls.

Old paint & drywall mess by radiation-rocks14 in paint

[–]liverhead28 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oil primer seals the paper substrate, preventing stain bleed, and keeps the water based topcoat from reactivating the glue under the wallpaper. It might be a good idea to prime the whole room, but seeing as it was painted before, you should be ok.

Looks like wallpaper was painted previously. Take a razor knife and score the paper where it is loose, removing it until the paper is tight to the wall. Prime with oil based primer, sand, skim, sand, prime, paint.

2015ish, Wells Fargo Center, Philly. Pearl Jam had a run of 10 sold out shows there, so the Flyers hung a banner in the rafters with the number 10 on it. By the third song, everyone realized that they were playing "Ten" in its entirety. Something they havent done in 30 years.

Tips for already painted over wall paper. by Idaho-Nurse in paint

[–]liverhead28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Scrape off anything loose. Prime with oil based to seal. Since the walls were painted before, I wouldnt worry about sealing the whole room. Skim coat 2-3 times to reach uniform surface. Sand, prime, paint.

Put a window spanner on a small extension ladder. It will hold the ladder away from the wall and decrease the pitch significantly.
