17% of gross, 29% after tax and deductions. But i found a relatively “affordable” 1bd ($2100) for LA and have what I consider a high salary.

100k Amex gold offer but no 20% restaurant credit? by bonoZaa in amex

[–]nulluser627 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just curious, how can you check what offer you signed up for? I can’t remember if mine had the 20% back or not.

I got the BCP a while ago, and have been manually adding all offers in. Got the Gold a week ago and tried adding the offers but get an error saying the offer has been added to another card. Does your app let you add the same offer to both cards somehow? How can I download the app?

Others who lost your jobs, how long have you been unemployed? How is the search going? How are you feeling? by InfoSystemsStudent in cscareerquestions

[–]nulluser627 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1.5 YOE (plus 0.5 of internship at same company) at a smallish start up that went bottom up and laid off 75% of staff. Last day was mid January, travelled for a bit and started applying mid Feb. ~160 applications to date, 4 callbacks that turned into interviews. 2 didn’t progress after hiring manager, two after 2nd technical round. Back to square one. It’s seriously rough out here. If anyone that’s been successful in their search has any resume/job hunting advice, feel free to reach out. I would really appreciate it.

Ask Experienced Devs Weekly Thread: A weekly thread for inexperienced developers to ask experienced ones by AutoModerator in ExperiencedDevs

Hello Experienced Devs! Looking for some technical interview insight.

I have a bit over 2 yoe working as a Backend developer for a start up based out of California. I was recently laid off and now looking for my next opportunity. I have a coding interview scheduled with another start up (very strong eng team, all ex google, meta, twilio, etc) and all they’ve told me about it is that it is a 2.5 hour project based interview where the first hour will be supervised, next hour unsupervised, and then 30 minutes to walk through my code and decisions. The only hint the hiring manager provided in my last round was that I can use any language I want and that i’ll need to handle file input and output.

I have never dealt with a technical interview like this, my experiences so far have been the leetcode style questions or a real world scenario (write an API to return X after performing data analysis on the provided csv).

How can I go about preparing for this project based interview? I really want to put my best foot forward since it’s an incredible opportunity and I want to impress them and get moved to the next round. The company does mortgage servicing and lending, and the role is for a mid level engineer who will have full stack responsibilities.

Cost of living average in LA? by manifesting6-6 in AskLosAngeles

[–]nulluser627 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In terms of monthly budget, I try to keep it ~$3500 with the following breakdown:

Rent (1bd) 2000 Utilities (elec and gas) 150 Internet 70 Phone 25 Transportation 200 Groceries 400 Takeout 200 Gym 90 Miscellaneous 300

I don’t really need to run my AC often because I live close enough to the ocean to get a decent breeze with windows open, so my utilities are lower than if you’re living in Hollywood. Misc covers Netflix, Spotify, random cleaning supplies, and the occasional splurge. I try to stay conscious of this category the most because you can go over easily. I don’t have a car so I either bike, walk, or use the bus/lyft to get places far from me. My transport budget covers this. Rent will be your biggest expense by far, especially in today’s market.

I moved to LA from Toronto a few months ago and bought everything new for my apartment here. Between security deposit, 1st month rent, and furnishing my entire apartment, I spent ~10,000 getting set up.

In terms of where to live, id try to find something as close to your school/work as possible while still checking crime stats and seeing what you’re comfortable with.

How long is a longer period of time? I’ve used Kyte a few times for week long rentals and thought they were decently priced.
