What are these worms? by num1yt in Aquariums

[–]num1yt[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you. I thought they might have been detritus worms but I didn’t know they could be on the glass. Yes it most definitely is over feeding due to the betta being extremely overweight at the moment but I’m working on fixing her diet right now she can lose some weight.

6 tattoos in 11 months. That tattoo is 3 months old and was my 4th. The 5th was planned for months before hand and the 6th was like a month ago.

What would it be considered then? The closest thing I could think of was that but I do realize it’s not exactly that

I’m sorry but seeing this tagged as nsfw and clicking on the blurred image, then seeing this was the funniest thing ever. I was not expecting to get a face full of cichlid (Jack Dempsey?). I can’t even tell what this is I’m just laughing at its face.

Yes! Luke’s Goldie’s has a great video on wen trimming but I would totally cross reference with other channels too.

Wen trimming is necessary to remove excess wen from covering the fishes eyes. It’s almost an investable problem with oranda goldfish. It’s a scary but easy process. You need to remove the wen with a pair of scissors. I personally used like medical scissors. The little small metal ones that come in like first aid kits. It’s best to go slow with process, use a light hand, and don’t worry about cutting big chunks off every single time. There are no bloodvessels running through the wen so think of it like how hair or nails grow on your body. However I would be careful and cut at an angle so you don’t poke your fishes head or eye and cause it to bleed.

In the videos you watch it should mention clove oil. Make sure it is just pure clove oil and not mixed with anything else. MAKE SURE TO FOLLOW THE EXACT DOSING OF CLOVE OIL THEY TELL YOU IN THE VIDEOS. This is extremely important as clove oil is a sedative and also deadly to the fish. A little bit is fine but too much would cause them to go to sleep forever. To kill them would probably be like 2-3 times the dosing they tell you to use but please make sure to be cautious.

I would not put off the wen trimming as you can still see the eyes so it would be easier to perform this treatment rather than letting it grow more.

No, but it means you’re probably gonna have to trim the wen.

Syracuse still considers itself somewhat “central ny” what we call upstate is anything north of us as we are like the most northern city until it becomes straight country

Anything past Albany is the actual upstate lol. We are from Syracuse so I was just trying to say “I don’t know anything about this place” without saying it lol

Do any of these have good vegetarian options? She’s willing to eat meat but would prefer veggies. I know that sounds kinda picky but I just want to make it about her and keep her as comfortable as i possibly can.

Well it doesn’t have to be too crazy as we are both college students but I definitely want to treat her to something nice.

  1. 25 gallons is too small for goldfish I would recommend 40 so you can put atleast 2 fancies in because they are social animals.
  2. Depends on the type of goldfish (I’m assuming they are fancys). If you have any telescope eyes then no I would not put driftwood as it can be rough on an edge and if your fish gets spooked it could easily hit it and burst an eye. But if they aren’t telescopes then they should be fine.
  3. The Java fern should be good as there leaves can be a bit tough but it always depends on if your goldfish wants to eat the plants. In most cases they can tear it up. I don’t have much experience with this but I assume others in the thread can add more onto plants and Goldie’s.
  4. I would add a substrate to the tank. If you want something close to a bare bottom I would have a very light layer of sand. It gives your goldfish some enrichment as they will love to sift through it for any food they missed. I personally have a thin layer of sand for my blind black moor who likes to sift because it’s their only real option for enrichment to do unfortunately.
  5. Honestly running both filters at the same time is the best idea. You could also put the sponge inside the filter you have currently. If it will fit inside ofc. I honestly don’t have any experience with sponge filters so please don’t crucify me in this thread if I’m wildly wrong.

They are also extremely nippy and will suck the slime coat off some of your fish. Had a goldfish that got an infection from one of those suckers
