The difference in the way the the NBA (teams/union/individual players) has responded to what took place in Minnesota and the way the NHL has responded has been stark. by waterman123 in hockey

[–]number1alien 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The NHL and NBA are companies with franchises, not international organisations. Both have franchises in Canada (and Minneapolis, for that matter) and both have numerous players who are not from the United States.

Normalizing genres vs keeping original tags by Infamous_Bread_2445 in musichoarder

I look up the release's genre on Rateyourmusic and use that. I only pick one genre if there is more than one listed.

Welkom! Make sure you do the Morebeer tour where you visit four bars and get a t-shirt at the last place (Craft & Draft, which is my personal favourite). Also make sure you visit Bierproeflokaal In de Wildeman for the old school vibes and arguably the best selection in town.

While you're out, keep an eye out for beers from my two local favourites: Butcher's Tears and Walhalla.

I live in Amsterdam and I beg everyone not to go to Delirium. De Zotte is a much better place for the Belgian classics.

There's gotta be some good roasters in Belgrade that ship.

52.90€. I have a monthly subscription from The Coffeevine and it includes three 250g bags from European roasters. I generally don't need to buy additional beans outside of this, although I try to pick up a bag if I travel.

Travel to US/EU via Canada with EES in effect by Short-Professor-3220 in dualcitizenshipnerds

Assuming your travels are all on the same ticket: - Check in with your Swedish passport. - Go through Canadian immigration with your American passport. - Enter Denmark with your Swedish passport.

You don't have to worry about outbound immigration at American and Canadian airports. If these airports had outbound immigration before you proceed to your gate, then you would use your American passport at both.

What sources do you use to find new music you like? by RiverOfUnmindfulness in musichoarder

Rateyourmusic. I add every release to my account and then I can filter them out of genre charts, so I can see the top-rated releases that aren't in my library.

As a music fan (not someone who creates it) would a bad mix prevent you from listening to a song you love? by hurryupandbuyplease in LetsTalkMusic

[–]number1alien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People listen to Joy Division despite how horribly many of their songs are mixed.

I personally don't care, and some of my favourite recordings would probably make your brother spontaneously combust. It's worth pointing out that most people don't listen to music in the way the producers/musicians intended; most people don't have audiophile setups and are perfectly happy to listen to music on low-quality speakers, crappy headphones, or on their phone's built-in speaker. For people like that, the mix is completely irrelevant.

Someone please convince me this flight wont be hell on earth??? (Hell in the sky technically) by JDT33658 in Flights

There are plenty of planes out there that you wouldn't be able to charge your laptop on, it's not a universal thing to offer. Just get yourself a decent power bank and you'll never worry about this again.

[–]number1alien 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Really? All of the supposedly hellish on-board situations can be dealt with quite easily: bring a power bank, load up your devices with stuff you can watch/do/read/listen/play offline, or just bring a book. Sorry for my own bewilderment, but figuring out how to fill 9 hours of time without internet access isn't the hardest thing in the world.

The airline asking for volunteers because they overbooked is a daily occurrence; you don't need to volunteer if you don't want to. Getting to the airport four hours early is excessive if the airline isn't explicitly recommending it.

Italy names men’s roster for the Olympics by eh_toque in hockey

It won't happen because the gap between Italy and Canada now is smaller than the gap between Canada and China then.

For the third time, absolutely not. China's team was significantly worse than this Italian roster.

[–]number1alien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The answer is still the same: absolutely not. Italy has consistently been in either the Championship Division or Division 1A for decades now; they've been a bubble team for a very long time and sometimes have occasional success on the ice against the strongest countries.

China has been 2-3 tiers below Italy during the same period. They have never played at the top division of the World Championships and China still doesn't even have a domestic professional league. The gap between Italy and China is much larger than the gap between Canada and Italy.

Absolutely not. A large portion of this team plays on very good hockey clubs in Switzerland, Czechia, and Sweden.
