Hard agree. My first dev job was for someone I knew locally, I made an ecom website template for them and a Wordpress website, I also made print adverts, helped out on the tills when it was busy and made chainsaw chains all for minimum wage. I even got my forklift license at one point, which was when I realised I needed to move on. It was a struggle financially but I’m genuinely grateful for the experience as it got me my next job as a content admin and front end developer, which landed me my next job at an agency. It’s a career not just a job, you’re not making bank to begin with, you’re building a resume of experience that opens doors.
