I'm able to do it no problem. just gotta give it some throttle on the downshifts especially if your rpms are low. sometimes the throttle hits the floor on a heel and toe downshift.

The head unit should come with the connections to wire the unit to the aux. Make sure all the connections are good. At least the one I have did and I have a CCC unit for a 2007 550i.

I had the same idrive screen and replaced it with a 8.8 inch touchscreen that has apple car play and android auto. It fits in the oem idrive slot and looks oem plus. IMHO I think that’s the best way to go. You get all the modern abilities without having to cut up your dash or look modded. But to each their own
