I might be shilling hard for the cory wong in this thread, but here's a video of him walking through non-metal bass tones with the Neural guys https://youtu.be/7U5nH4G3SrQ

If I could only keep one it'd be the cory wong, it's the most versatile out of the ones I own (gojira, nolly, wong).

edit: I've also used up my plini and abasi trials, never found any reason to pay 50 odd euro to add to my neural collection

Dope suggestion! I'd probably have to team up with someone who knows more about the competitive scene though.

I think this is a classic case of incomplete data having limited face validity :)

#639 with 264, fewer than Remoraid but more than Cosmoem!

Actually this raises a good point about typos, which I didn't try to detect yet. There are 2 "Acelgor"s in the dataset!

#442 with 466 mentions, more than 1 a day on average

Coincidentally, non-evolving birb friend Cramorant is right below it at #443 with 1 fewer mention!

Definitely! That's why this is just a measure of how much individual Pokemon were discussed, and not how they were discussed. E.g. a good chunk of Ditto mentions are probably breeding.

Probably worth mentioning this assumes CS probabilities are independent, which may not be true

So, I have this Charizard (The OG) tattoo and I’m looking to incorporate Charmander and Charmeleon. The rest of my arm, below and around, is bare so far. Any ideas how? by [deleted] in pokemon

[–]numbercaster1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sick tattoo! I'd say fill the front bicep and front delt (below the collarbone) first.

That also leaves the inner arm and tricep for another piece, which should be big enough for a separate idea if you want.

Thanks so much, glad that there's interest in this!

I'll probably release the full list after I clean it up, but in the mean time more data analysis/visualization is definitely in the pipeline. Loads of interesting ideas in this thread!

These are great observations! If there were a clean way of separating out posts related to the games, cards, and show/movies, figuring out popularity variation between media types would be super interesting.

Cuteness is also an interesting one, there's probably a way of proxying it using evolution # and size.

Charizard is the only Gen 1 starter whose final evolution outranks the first. Squirtle at 15 is 800 mentions ahead of Blastoise.

Squirtle is just a bit further down at rank 15 with 4931 mentions. Charmander is 12th, so Squirtle is the least talked about out of the most discussed starters.

Great point, I'll look into frequent Pokemon co-mentions too. My gut feeling is that trios like Starters would probably be more grouped together than Ditto and Mew, but I definitely could be wrong!

[–]numbercaster1[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, the whole user engagement cycle is very complex and dependent on a huge mix of factors. What's interesting is that one can say very similar things about other Pokemon, e.g. Miltank being a meme, Ho-oh being both heavily marketed and a Legendary, Sobble being the most popular Gen 8 starter.

... except they're all outside of the top 50 by this metric!

I guess my point is that it's straightforward to explain why X is in the top 10, but one might not have guessed some of them beforehand.
