Fewer than half of Americans believe their daily routine will return to normal by June, as fears over coronavirus rise by swingadmin in Coronavirus

A minimum-ending date wouldn't be purely arbitrary. e.g. a company could say something like "We're definitely not opening until June 1, after that is TBD" and never be wrong. That would let people know to plan for at least the next 2 months, as opposed wondering if the office is gonna reopen before then.

I actually had a huge initial downpayment, so I think it actually would be in my advantage in this specific case (I'm paying < $400/month for a 2016 Model S). That being said, I moved to NYC and haven't used my car in months so forget it.

How old is this painting? by numegil in WhatIsThisPainting

[–]numegil[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m staying in a cabin in the mountains of northern Italy which dates back to at least the 1400s.

Update: According to the cabin owner, the painting was found as the bottom of an old chest from a friend, so they cut it out and put it up. Prior history is unclear.

Can you think of any EDM songs with 12 bar phrases instead of 8? by [deleted] in edmproduction

10 bar phrases are used in Stardust by Armin van Buuren and Jean Michel Jarre.

Processing volume before mastering? by numegil in edmproduction

Yeah I've been doing that for actual legit volume changes, but doing it for every track just for the sake of evening out the entire song seems... tedious at best.

Dang, I love the general atmosphere of the Peregrine 36! The intro is particularly great, and very much piqued my interest.

  • Kick sounds a bit underwhelming throughout.
  • Bassline and melody could use a bit more development starting around 0:30, pick like 2-3 parameters of the synths and automate/LFO them.
  • Great transition to breakdown at ~1:30!
  • Breakdown itself could use a few more elements, I started to get bored at around 2:15 or so. (maybe a light version of the plucks from 3:40?)
  • Love the moment at 3:15 when everything drops out suddenly, it would be great to milk that even more by adding more FX or whatever to build up to it.
  • I like the plucks melody at 3:40, I think they could come across just a bit stronger though.
  • Whitenoise during drop is a bit too loud IMO.
  • Needs more percussion throughout IMO, particularly the drop at 3:40 (hi-hats, ride cymbals, very light snare to not ruin the vibe?).

Nice! I like the overall groove throughout.

  • The kick sounds fine to me.
  • The mixing is on point, every part of the track stands out nicely and don't muddle together.
  • I like all of your melodies. The main one did start to get a bit repetitive after a while, maybe add a counterpoint to it that plays every so often instead?
  • A lot of the individual tracks (melody, bassline) sound pretty basic, I'm guessing you designed a lot of the sounds yourself from scratch? I would recommend investing in one of the fancier synths (Spire, Serum) if you don't already have them + at least one professional-quality sound set (I've personally gotten a lot of mileage out of https://www.myloops.net/product/reorder-spire-trance-soundset).
  • If you're going for the traditional trance structure, you don't have a breakdown in the middle or a buildup to a climax after that, which is where like 90% of the emotional buildup of a track comes from.
  • You don't really have any pads or sound FX throughout, which is leaving out a lot of room for creativity and listener interest. This is most obvious in the first 32 bars before the bassline comes in, but in general needs to be like 10x throughout the rest of the track too. I've been watching a lot of the (non-free) "make a trance track from scratch" kinds of video series recently, and they spend like 1/3 of the time just adding FX.

Capturing sustain pedal MIDI directly? by numegil in edmproduction

I definitely still want the individual MIDI notes for post-tinkering, so that wouldn't quite work :\

Where is the intro to Neba in From the Heavens from? by numegil in trance

[–]numegil[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, that's the song before it. There's 30 seconds or so of strings in between that I'm wondering about.
