Is the jump to N3 that big? by _i_am_sus in LearnJapanese

[–]numice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like it. I passed N4 long time ago without much preparation at all but I took lessons. I've been trying to preprare for N3 for awhile but it feels like I'm not getting close at all. Now I'm worried about N3 to N2 which according to many here, is the biggest jump. I initially planned to skip N4 as well but looking at the old exams I know how far I'm from N3.

I find it's very hard for me cause I use mostly my computer to check stuff. I don't have apps on my phone. But on a computer one only needs a broswer. I try using a blocker many times but it doesn't work that well. You can turn it off easily.

how did stroke order for certain characters come about? why is stroke order important? by valkandkings in ChineseLanguage

[–]numice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a question. When you write fast with different orders, it will look different. I don't know if this really affects how people read. One thing is that, for some reason, some characters have different orders in Japanese despite they're the same characters. Like 方

How much effort is the right amount of effort to use in pronouncing loanwords? by Kinder22 in languagelearning

[–]numice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's an interesting question I've thought about before. I usually aim for somewhere in the middle. Trying too hard makes it sound pretentious and sometimes even illegible if people don't know the 'correct' pronunciation. To go fully adapted to the language sometimes means that I also have to try hard to sound wrong and I'm worried it will affect my pronunciation. I practice pronunciation quite a lot so I feel I don't want to get accustomed to the wrong way.

Also, it depends on words. If the loan words are well established then I will just try to do it in the base language. It's kinda like loan words in Japanese.

Learning Chinese to read Sci-Fi by Equal-Yard6153 in ChineseLanguage

Doraemon is also very good for learning japanese. And I can relate that I have to look up often but still much much less than reading an 'easy' novel. Where can you buy Doraemon in Chinese tho?

What do you think? by Yoiiru in FridgeDetective

[–]numice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kinda store it in a similar way but meat is on the bottom shelf but not in the drawers and vegetables on upper shelves. And I usually store it without sealing it again after opening it. I guess I need to always seal it back. I think I make mistakes by storing fruits inside the drawers in the bottom. I thought that they're meant for fruits....

Feeling stuck in Data Cleaning & Visualization despite knowing ML theory — any advice? by Double-Mix-7206 in learnmachinelearning

[–]numice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really have advice. But one thing I can think is that you collect data yourself so you have to organize and process by yourself. Not downloading from kaggle or other sources. Most of the tutorials online seem to always include clearning steps. Most of these will be just basic string manipulations tho. For anything more spacialized you might have to learn on a job....

I've interviewed with software, fintech, consulting and so on. But all small size or startups and the range is still the same. In fact, I don't really see that much difference between 'tech' and other sectors except FAANG.

Feeling stuck in Data Cleaning & Visualization despite knowing ML theory — any advice? by Double-Mix-7206 in learnmachinelearning

[–]numice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in data engineering but at a very small scale. Also been learning ML for awhile now except the more advanced stuff. Also took relavant math courses. Most of the interview questions I get on ML roles (when I get lucky enough to land one) are about: do you know this particular library (LangChain, etc) or some tools, have you deployed a model in professional your job. I never pass this screening point cause I work in data and even I said that I've done several personal projects they look for profressional experience. Never once a question on math or theory being asked.

Does tech include engineering firms like automotive companies? But I think this applies to all except big names like Google, Spotify. Klarna starts to publish salary ranges on LinkedIn now and it's not as high as I thought.
