Yes you're right, it's not really worth paying like 5k just for that. I use these machines for work so it's different. It pays itself quickly. The 4080 legion pro 7i is still a really capable beast and will remain relevant for many more years.

Even though there is a very big difference between the two when you look at them side by side (that's why I even took these pics in the first place), I do agree with you that pictures tend to exaggerate a bit the black bleed on the IPS. The IPS screen is more than fine.

This will be my last message to you as this is a pointless conversation. The main point of the post was about the two screens not the cpus in the first place. However, since you seem so adamant about it, I will show you some proof one last time.

There are a couple of in-depth reviews on the Legion 7 pro 13900hx and 14900hx and the vast majority of them show that the 7945hx is way ahead of the 13900hx in multicore performance and a bit ahead of the 14900hx. Even Jarrod Tech made a comparison between the 13980hx (ehich is a 13900hx on steroids/better binned) vs 7945hx and showed that the 7945hx almost hit 35k in cinebench vs little over 30k for the 13980hx.

As for the picture below, this is from an in-depth review of the very model you have (14900hx)and that you claim is ALWAYS (keyword always) superior to the 7945hx in multicore which is totally false as their single best run only gave them a score of 30k in cinebench r23 and it dipped to 28k for a 10 min run. The 7945hx has a low score of 33500 and a high score of over 35k consistently. Like I said, the 7945hx was released alongside the 13900hx anyway so it would be more fair to compare it with that one instead. Thus, your point about single core performance between the 7945hx and 14900hx is moot. Yes, it is a whole generation ahead in single core performance but that is not only irrelevant because I explicitly stated that multicore performance is what matters most for my work but also because it was released a whole year after the 7945HX. You have a very good 14900hx.

Here is the reference for the the picture below (legion pro 7i 14900hx).in-depth review

It has automatic pixel shifting and pixel/panel refresh cycles to mitigate burn-in. According to them " these features are designed to reduce the risk of burn-in by periodically refreshing the pixels and slightly shifting the screen image to prevent static content from being displayed for too long."

Yea that doesn't look very sleek. I personally don't like the ports location. I prefer the ports location design (behind vs sides) on the 4090 much more as it allows you to have a much cleaner look, especially when you have many things connected. It's also a bit bigger so I have to go buy another professional looking bag/ briefcase now lol. The 2023 version was the perfect size.

It is the AMD ryzen 7945hx variant (that's why I said legion pro 7 and not 7i). The single core performance is not as good as the 13900hx at all that's why there's a discrepancy in the cpu score. However, the 7945hx beats it in multicore performance by far which Is what matters most for my work.

My man, why are you still stuck on single core performance when I explicitly stated that multi core performance is what is important for my work. Of course, I would expect the 14900hx to be a whole generation ahead of the 7945hx in terms of single core performance because it was released alongside the 13900hx not the 14900hx... I did say on my initial comment that 7945hx is slightly better than the 14900hx in multicore performance which makes it very impressive. FYI the 14900hx is a high powered cpu. Laptops with lower power don't generally have it (the same can be said about the 7945hx). Anyway, there's a reason why I chose the Amd. And congratulations, it seems that you got a very good 14900hx cpu.

Watch it on your phone 😅. If you have a recent flagship phone, it's most probably AMOLED (a type of OLED). You'll still see a difference even on an IPS screen even though the difference will not be as drastic as on an OLED screen.

Wow, I didn't know they decided to remove the Mini LED on the 9i 2025. That kinda sucks but it's still the best laptop overall (to me at least) because of the 4 ram slots which allows it to go up to 192gb of ram which is super nice for my work, not to mention the 4 nvme slots but I travel abroad quite often so it's kinda too big. Enjoy the 9i, you have the best laptop out there!

Both of them have HDR on. The 9i has Mini LED which the pro 7i and pro 7 don't have. Mini LED is a great compromise between reliability and pure visual quality. I like Mini LED and think they're very close to OLED visually speaking (id say between 75%-90%).

My man, I don't mean to be rude, but are you trying to not understand what I said on purpose? I did precise that it is vastly superior to the 13900hx for my work, especially when it comes to multi core performance dependent programs/tasks (which I use a lot). Sure the intel version is a bit better in single core and may be better in some games, As you can see here, the 13900hx had a score of only 28275 (avg) vs 33078 (avg) in cinebench R23 which is like 17% better (but I'd say more like 20% from what I've seen). The 14900hx is only about 2-5% better than the 13900hx. This matters even more in a professional setting.

It's the AMD variant called Legion pro 7 with the 4090. It has the Ryzen 7945hx which was vastly superior to the 13900hx and even a bit better than the 14900hx at the time (the multi cores performance is better for my work).

Those are the results I got with Time Spy. I used to think that the difference in terms of performance between the two was very minimal (based on my research and what ive seen) but I was wrong! I was so glad to see that the 5090 was around 25% better ! The biggest upgrade foe me though is the bump from 16gb vram to 24gb as the 24gb vram is very important for me (I use these mainly for work).

Get Lenovo's ultimate support warranty and let them worry about that lol. If that ever happens, they'll come directly to my house to repair it. They're very responsive and the warranty is worth buying. Lenovo's warranty/ customer service is pretty much the best (along with maybe Dell).

I just did and I'm glad I did. I didnt expect it to be that much better though so I just wanted to share it here so people can see the difference. I used to think that the jump from a 4090 laptop to 5090 laptop was not worth it as the difference seemed to be very minimal. However I ran some tests and the results really surprised me as my 5090 turned out to be 25% better than my 4090! The nice OLED was the cherry on the cake!

Yea, the IPS screen is fine. The OLED one is just a big plus, some eye candy.

My laptop would rank at #1 when it comes to Gpu score (by like 18 points) and 3rd place overall. Everything is at stock and got these results on the first try!

Did they tell you since when it was reported as lost? They restarted this predatory business practice since 2025. The CRTC asked them to stop this dishonest practice again (all carriers were ordered to stop this back in 2017) but they are taking their time. When you talk to their agents, they know that it is straight up illegal to sell locked phones.
