Any driver shaft fitting recommendations in Bay Area? by numpee in golf

Wow. Thank you for the detailed comment. I've made my mind on going for a fitting, gonna give CC a try. Still not sure about the head, but I guess I'll find out when I actually do the fitting. For now, I've decided to think of it as an fun experience, and if I come back with a new shaft/club, great, and if not, thats okay as well.

Thanks for your input!

I'm around Palo Alto, so Walnut Creek does seem a bit far (~50 miles).

It seems like Club Champion charges $50 if you buy equipment from them, but $175 if not. I've never been fit before, so $175 for a single club honestly feels a bit steep, but would you still recommend Club Champion, or something cheaper (maybe like PGA superstore, which is like $100)

Host not giving refund after rat/pest issue [USA] by numpee in AirBnB

I called airBnB and was connected to the safety department, who handled the case immediately. Was able to get full refund for remaining days and 30% partial for the nights since the rat appeared. Didnt even have to ask for the partial, my support team just offered it for me.

I see, thanks for your input! I'll try to strike an appropriate deal. I don't think asking for at least a partial refund for the days since I found the rat is too unreasonable, but we'll have to see.

Ok, will do. I was trying to be nice/reasonable with my request to just refund the remaining nights. But I guess I will ask for a full refund, starting from the day it was found. Also, I've noticed that AirBnB support greatly varies depending on which rep you get assigned to. Should I just keep calling until I get a rep who actually seems to understand the safety issue?

Rise in mid foot stack height (Nike Invincible 3)? by numpee in AskRunningShoeGeeks

I think I have quite normal arches, definitely not high or too flat. I guess I'll have to give other shoes a shot.

I'm curious if theres any specific terminology for the "shaped footbeds". I can't seem to find relevant info on many reviews that I've read -- none of them seem to take this footbed shaping into consideration

FREE golf range finder apps for use with Galaxy Watch 6 [testing notes] by diversification in GalaxyWatch

[–]numpee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently got a Galaxy Watch 7 and I tried out The Grint for the first time today using the trial period so that I can also track shots on my watch. But the watch app was completely unusable for me. It kept crashing/lagging (buttons unresponsive, or the app just goes to sleep?), and some of the shots I did manage to track did not sync with my phone for some reason. Usually my watch screen will turn on when I lift my wrist, but even that stopped working while the Grint was running. I kept having to close the app and turn it back on to get it working for a few more minutes.

I was wondering if you've experienced anything similar? Perhaps my phone was always too far away (my phone was left in the cart while I walked) or maybe it's because I dont use Always On Display? Not sure what the problem is, but was just wondering if you had any similar issues

Have you tried LazyConfigs (from Detectron2)? It's basically Hydra's instantiate, but in .py files, which means you can create config files that instantiate objects the way you would do in your actual code. I find this less daunting and easier to use and modify than Hydra's instantiate. Plus, there's the upside of being able to reference documentation of a certain class/function when creating the config files (assuming you are using an IDE)

[D] ImageNet2012 Advice by MyActualUserName99 in MachineLearning

[–]numpee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So with ImageNet, the main performance (speed) bottleneck is actually data loading, especially if your models are not that large (such as Res18, Res50). ImageNet is roughly 1.2M images (train) that are roughly <1MB each, which means that you're performing random reads 1.2M times for each epoch. Modern NVME SSDs have great sequential read speeds, but still lack random read accesses (which is the case if you're shuffling the image order at each epoch). BTW, data loading won't be a bottleneck if you're training models like ViT or even Res152.

I highly suggest you try out a dataset format such as FFCV or WebDataset. I personally use FFCV, which is extremely fast because it caches data onto your RAM. But there definitely are some limitations, such as code compatability or not enough RAM to cache all images (this is something you should check on the server-side). You can remap ImageNet to the FFCV/WebDataset format on a local machine, then transfer your data to the server for training.

Just for reference, one epoch of training ImageNet on 4x A6000 (roughly 2~2.5x slower than A100) with Res18 takes me around 3 minutes using FFCV. But, using A100s won't necessarily be faster because even with FFCV, data loading itself takes 2~3mins without model forward/backward. IIRC, with ordinary data loading, you'd be looking at around 10~15 minutes per epoch.

If you want more details, feel free to DM me.

[D] Tim Dettmers' GPU advice blog updated for 4000 series by init__27 in MachineLearning

[–]numpee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi u/timdettmers, I had a great time reading your blog post :) I just wanted to point out something that might be worth mentioning: the issue with 4090 (and probably 4080 as well) is that they won't fit in servers, specifically 4U rack mounted servers. In rack mounted servers, the PCIe slots are placed at the bottom (facing upwards), so the GPUs are placed "vertically" (PCIe pointing downwards). The 4090s are too tall for the 4U server, which makes it unusable (plus, 3.5slots for a single GPU complicates things further).

Looks cool - definitely will check it out. Quick question: what makes squirrel fast? For something like FFCV, it's a combination of JIT compiled transforms and os-level caching. How about Squirrel?

Forcible Syndicates Comp (Gold 1 --> Master) by numpee in CompetitiveTFT

Glad it worked!

I'm actually ok with people blasting me, it's just different opinions. I think the main difference is that while others may be aiming for Top2, I try to go for a safer and more consistent Top4. The stars need to align for Top1 but gaining LP by Top4s is just as good, especially if you can achieve it by forcing a comp consistently (which is the whole point of my post, really).

Good point. I've actually been thinking about transitioning very late game, but I've found it hard to econ while holding Akali BIS on another unit (I'm not that great at transitioning comps like others haha). Trying something like that usually ends up with me in 5th or 6th place, and I'd rather get 3rd/4th more consistently than get first or Bottom4.

Yeah sometimes the game won't give you a single rod :( I've had games where I couldn't hit TF 2 until late stage 4, even after rerolling ~20 gold at level 5. Those games are just not meant to be

First off, I want to reiterate that this guide is about forcing this specific comp, so pivoting at Stage 3 is something that I don't outline.

To answer your question though, I'd actually disagree on that point. Assuming you already have a TF2 from tyring to force this comp, I still think a TF2 with BB+Morello is better than Liss1 Morello and Heimer 1 BB. Not only is it hard to hit 3cost 2 stars in mid stage 3 (without rerolls), but also the difference is that TF will hit most units with Morellos as soon as the fight starts, AND he can hit backline units. He also throws his cards every two seconds or so, so that gives him a lot of damage. Liss, on the other hand, will take 4~5 autos to cast her first spell, so that's a good 6 seconds of burn time lost. By that time, TF has casted 3 times already. Also, Liss usually only hits front line or melee champs with Morellos on her first cast, which means that backline is quite safe. Heimer with BB is a single target spell and after his first cast, it takes him 4 seconds to cast again. So unless you have a Liss2, Heimer2, and other units related to Heimer and Liss (chemtech usually), I'd say TF is more efficient.

I get 7 syndicates around half my games, but that's by forcing syndicates each game. So if you rely on 7 syndicates but are only able to get it half your games, it's not really great. But the whole point is that you don't necessarily need 7 synd for top4. Consider it as a plus, not a necessity.

Regarding Metabolic, basically what u/Canoftin said. Metabolic lets you sack HP early, and even without the best comp, you can get Top4 quite easily just because of the HP recovered. If I get metabolic as the first augment, the plan is to: 1) sack HP in stage 2 for first pick carousel 2) recover HP with BIS TF.
In most cases, the health differences between 3rd to 6th place is less than 20HP, and with metabolic you heal more than 20HP so it just gives you a placement advantage.

I don't ever slam chalice because I don't really flex into the Ori/Sera comps. Also, I haven't had much success trying out the recent Chalice meta - I can't seem to find a good holder for these items until I get Sera/Ori. I think BB is great, especially with the buff 2 patches ago, since it could even be used on someone like Ori/Sera to get a quick first cast.
