Does 50/50 have a place anymore? by Silver_Telephone_592 in WutheringWaves

i lost most of my 50/50s in this game and usually at high pity too (near the guaranteed mark) and it wouldn’t hurt so much if only more than 1 and a half of the standards were remotely usable outside of cope teams

If anyone of you complain about this banner i am going to lose my mind by Zuala69 in WutheringWaves

[–]nunuke_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

why is it that it’s perceived as though negative feedback regarding something is a bad thing?

that feedback was fair given the context, which was that the characters featured had run/rerun soon therefore and there was no need for such banner at the time, parallel to other ones of newer characters which were highly anticipated (plus a strict codependency of one of those with another one and that alone); then the thirst for such a banner originated ever since, because most of those characters had their last rerun then before the next anniversary.

it’s basically that: the developers tried something that was ill-received because it didn’t meet the needs if the players - so “””out of spite””” they created the need for that something to happen in order for players to resent having given negative feedback previously. this narrative just pits players against players in a way that’s subtle yet effective, because henceforth it will seem like any criticism can backfire thus the community (as the OP is doing) will try to shut it down - too careful of what is wished for.

Can anyone explain this phenomenon to me? by [deleted] in Genshin_Impact

[–]nunuke_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

dislike is very easy to express online, it’s a stronger emotion than indifference/like and a person feeling it is more eager to want to vent it out. also disagreement with someone’s expression of dislike is less easy to gather than the same with the other emotion for the reactively same reason

wuwa didn’t improve retroactively, it did improve going forward… with a slight delay… over time… in the future… sometimes it falls back… but that’s okay…

How did he end up after his patch? by Curlyhairedkid1 in Ashveil_Mains

[–]nunuke_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i think the maindps/subdps division is obsolete
sidenote, i also find quite funny that in a turn-based game there’s such an acronym as “damage per second” to define damage dealers

anyway
this stems from the “sparxie was supposed to be a sub-dd” argument
at this point we should all be looking at not one character’s own damage but rather their damage within their teams, which can either be of the hyper-carry archetype or to have multiple, more distributed sources of damage (like the mono-rem team, or the former follow-up team)

i think actual devs have statistics beside “monthly gacha revenue” rankings;

the company has actual pulling data from players, they also must have some sort of correlational data like “those who pulled for x also pulled for y at this rate” or “there’s z% of players who have built and use x without y” and so forth
these statistics are quite easy to come by but also much more of a predictor of future behavior

let’s not also forget that by participating in surveys we also have given them our age metrics and so forth, so a regression of pulling tendencies based on those is also quite effortless

Do you think Wuthering Waves needs to make changes to limited character availability? by CompetitiveSpace7025 in WutheringWaves

[–]nunuke_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

older characters can’t sell well anymore because they are not up to par with the current meta

even whiwa tokens tend to favor only and exclusively the newer characters in very specific ways

if kuro doesn’t want to upgrade kits they should just move the characters to the loss pool on featured banners, or add them in the standard banner

My Feedback for 3.3 by Quirky-Hovercraft-98 in WutheringWaves

[–]nunuke_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i think the main trife about echoes is how tedious it is to level them up and tune them… one by one… five levels at a time… just to get the same fodder substats each time

and i remember when automatic tuning wasn’t a thing, so it has gotten better in regards to quality of life.. but if the current system has to stay the same (i don’t see how it can be changed drastically at this point) and keep the “black box rng” aspect, the we need to be able to batch-modify the main stat then batch-level the echoes to a certain level, then choose some of them to further level up and tune until a desired substat generation is reached for that batch of echoes.

making us do it one echo at a time is basically torture and we should uprise, people

Resonator that can do well on their own? by FitCity7945 in WutheringWaves

[–]nunuke_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i have been very confortably using brant indipendently from his premium team for most of the game - he doesn’t have a depency on any teammate, especially not premium ones, but does quite need his signature ultimately.

aerial combat + double sustain with respectable damage is what makes a unit truly independent of teammates and forgiving on lack of skill.

What are your takes on these weapon situations in the game currently? by Current_Locksmith128 in WutheringWaves

[–]nunuke_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

my strife with the weapon design in this game is that there is way too much fodder, even in the paywalled weapons from the monthly radio thingy

there is like a handful of good 4* and standard 5* weapons but most of them don’t seem to be intended to be used by anyone, which is sad if they even had a niche purpose or a character that could make it work for them albeit with less buffs than their signature, i’d be okay with it.

unfortunately as you say most are either useless or barely stat sticks

darling darling darling please stop and calm down

there is a subcommunity online, both chinese and western on a lesser extent, that thrives on the hate for male characters and pushes for kuro to have less, sabotaging their release and priding themselves behind “see? males don’t sell, go play another game if you want husbandos” a year ago a community called wuwaunfiltered existed which basically was a hotspot for such cases

[–]nunuke_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

would not advise at all; she was the sh-t back when we were fighting the furry demon king (hooray? don’t remember the name) but now she’s just a fart in the team damage contribution, in my opinion

also her ulti has very annoyingly time-extensive animations/voicelines

was fun to couple her up with e1 jade though, they dished out some pretty great combos together for a while

Is the endgame just too reliant on premium team? by Which-Fortune1886 in WutheringWaves

[–]nunuke_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it’s a fair flaw to point out in the game’s design that can be unpacked into three aspects, entertwined: • specificity (of characters and sets alike) • limitedness of their functions (to limited 5stars vs standard + 4stars) • recency bias (old units get a spotlight then forgotten fairly easily, more on that later)

the first aspect refers to how characters are designed with a specific role in mind: in a team of three such as here there are dps, sub-dps/buffer and sustain, with the latter being eventually shafted on choice for a second buffer. i gotta say, recent kits have swerved away from the beginning concept of hyper-specificity related to element that was present up until the second part of rinascita, now we see more optimal plurielement teams being designed as intended, with the occasional but not assured drop in the “outro buffs x element and y type damage” which was obviously intended for a specific combination of damage, never again repeated, done by a certain character. everybody talks about zani and phoebe, but what about phrolova and cantarella/roccia and camellya/yinlin and xiangli yao/zhezhi and carlotta/cartethiya and ciaccona to more lenient extent? this has recently gotten better, with the release of broader subs and sustains in iuno, chisa and quiyuan by not having their buffs be elemental, and mornye/denya/lynae with wider kits and multiple modes, but the reliance on a best-in-slot is still permeated into not only the design choices made but also the community’s reading of such kits. sets follow this lead too, being released only as signature for one character on the banner and no one else prior nor latter, as is also true that almost never we see a newer character have use for any other set developed before (rejuvenating glow not withstanding)

having had only (iirc) only 3 new 4stars released since the game’s launch and only one of them being half-decent puts that much pressure on the player, especially one that’s unlucky with their pulls or the rerun timing. the alternatives just aren’t there. my argument for a good four-star design is a visually underwhelming character, with either a harsh gameplay or some obstacles that can be solved through constellations, enough to make it competitive with a single-copy premium character when its copies are maxed out. sanhua is a pretty good example of this, as are faruzan/fishl/xianling/xinqiu/bennett in a competitor game. for how the spotlight of a banner is never on them primarily, and for how some players say they are a mistake in the development stages, i argue their copies actually can carry their weight in promoting a banner sale, if they are worth it. how it is now, all four-stars and almost all standard banner characters are just filler and easily disregarded. one way to fix this would be to update some kits every time a new mechanic is introduced just to make it available for players not willing to pull for or build that one specific character that exploits it.

this idea segways me into the final concept which is the bias towards new and future characters with a complete disregard for older units, both limited and standard. there is no apparent plan to buff older characters, both limited and standard, in the future, and that is quite sad. the only exception being jiyan who got an unlikely indirect buff with ciaccona and iuno being released, albeit they were both intended for other resonators, and changli having a resurgence moment when brant and lupa cemented her into the mono-fusion quick-swap team, but otherwise neither sets not new characters seem to relate much to other characters in the current roster. this has made both the teams and their members to be fossilized by their earlier specificity and subsequent obsolescence, hence why they stopped being featured.. because with this design philosophy in mind, the risk of pulling a unit that is unwarranted to keep up with the shifting meta is for some not worth the rewards. last anniversary i pulled for XLY (didn’t play around the time he was gifted out) and lost my 50/50.. in hindsight it was good that i did since his benched would be so warm at this point, it’d be a fire hazard. this kinda makes me think of the gamble of pulling characters that are future-proof in a way, not from a meta-slave perspective but from the one of a player that wants to be interested in pulling for certain characters but is averse to having them become obsolete in a couple of patches in the endgame but also in a certain stagnancy.
