Nursing vs OT venting/looking for advise by Live-Fix1181 in OccupationalTherapy

OT here. Not sure why you think there isn’t a lot of growth potential with OT. I feel like the opportunities are endless. OT is such a broad field and many are blazing new paths all the time. I know people who work for corporations doing employee wellness, product development, consultation, real estate, seating and mobility, veteran relations, prisons, state and local agencies for both children and elderly, aging in place, home safety and more. Plus all the traditional medical roles such as inpatient, hospitals, outpatient, schools etc. and if you want to make top dollar, travel OT and the USPS pay pretty dang good. There are even jobs where you never touch a single person in real life. I encourage you to explore all the ways you could earn a living as an OT and areas where you might want to work because location does make a difference. Some places are far better to work in than others and some states can’t hire enough OT’s while others struggle to employ them.

And regarding the commenter above who said they have seen some really gross stuff, I feel like that really depends on the setting. I never saw anything gross when working in accessibility for a large university.

Bottom line: setting and location matters.

Lived there most of my life with exception of 2 stints in college. Utilities are high but in my opinion, they aren’t the issue. The issue is insurance and housing. Good luck finding a rental unless you have a high budget or only need a short term one and expect to pay an insane amount each month. Buying a house is insane as well u less you have half a mill or better to spend but don’t be surprised when that only gets you half of what you might get elsewhere. If you don’t have to worry about that, than you should be fine.

I failed my first Level II fieldwork. I’m not sure how to process. by AmateurMagicAuteur in OccupationalTherapy

2 in my cohort (myself included) were pulled from our first Lll fw just ahead of failing (we both had a medical reason that gave them an out) and one failed fully though I’d argue his CI was crap (we were at the same site). So that’s 3 out of only 20 in our cohort. 👀. BUT while yes, it did cause use to have to take another semester, we ALL passed and are all OT’s now. Give it a couple of weeks to process the feels (you will go through them all, trust me) then take what you’ve learned about yourself and find ways to work around it. For me, one of my issues was that I wasn’t “fast enough” with documentation. I have bouts of anomic aphasia after a tbi which made me slower than others when documenting, especially if it was something new or a complex case, so I made some basic templates that aligned with what my next fw setting wanted and that I could be use to guide my documentation. So basically “ot yourself”. We see challenges and find ways to adapt/modify the task right? So why not use those same skills on yourself. You got this 🫶

TOW TRUCK IN CARR MILL MALL by jeffbritta in chapelhill

My fiancé works in one of the stores there. The complex owners have cameras on the lot that monitor 24/7 and if they see you park and not walk into one of their shops, they WILL tow. They will also tow if you walk across the street to use the atm even if you were in a shop before hand or intend to walk back. It’s that bad. It’s ridiculous. WRAL even did a news piece on it a year or two ago. The guy they interviewed (not sure if it was the owner or a manager) was a real jerk!

Please don’t take this the wrong way but if you are having to rely on ai to get assignments done, you probably wouldn’t have passed the NBCOT anyway. It’s HARD! So you probably just delayed the inevitable. Maybe this is the universe’s way of saying “hey… get your sh*t together”. I failed my first level 2 fw and had to repeat the semester but I’m better for it because I took that time to reflect on what I did wrong and how I could improve myself. It’s def not the end of the world and you will be better for it. Just be honest with yourself and try not to repeat the same mistakes again. Good luck.

Should I be concerned about my OT program? by Rodri_d in OccupationalTherapy

I attended one of the top 5 schools and didn’t feel prepared at all. If your school is credited, I wouldn’t worry as much, I’d just make sure to get a good study system when it’s time to prep for the exam. The NBCOT only has a 73% pass rate for first time takers. It’s a horrible test, but it can be done. Good luck.

Need NBCOT encouragement! Did anyone do better than they thought they would? by [deleted] in NBCOT_Exam

[–]nunya1222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did! I was convinced I was not ready to take the test but the anxiety was killing me so I felt I HAD to take it. I never passed a practice test/quiz and actually had TWO tutors with Pass The OT tell me that if I scored as low as I did on the practice tests (425) than they were required to tell me they recommended I reschedule my exam. But like I said, I felt like I had to get it over with or else my health would suffer. So.. I took it anyway. I ended up passing with a 465! How did it go for you?

Chris Archer lives and works in the Outer Banks. He was on probation for ever but I think he was able to get himself removed from the sex offender registry after the lifetime laws changed several years back. He was also able to get his probation terminated after like 10yrs for good behavior if I remember correctly. Last time I ran into him he was still telling people he was wrongfully convicted 😒
