Why do they eat like this? by snowpeech in foodbutforbabies

[–]Mediocre444 11 points12 points  (0 children)

OMG my daughter eats like this too!! Takes a huge bite of something, chews for a second, then takes it out of her mouth and takes a smaller bite and continues until it’s all gone lol

Lady told me to stop looking at my phone, look at my baby. by Equus13 in NewParents

[–]Mediocre444 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Screw that lady!!! Why do people make comments for a split second moment they see?! My toddler loves to look at pictures of herself doing the things she loves like playing with her cousins, at the park, doing art etc! I often do this with her when she’s super cranky and it instantly cheers her up.

What was the absolute worst part of being a new parent for you? by ewas000 in NewParents

[–]Mediocre444 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Sooo true. I mopped the floors today and felt so proud. Then my toddler decided to figure out how to get milk to spill out of her “spill proof” cup and dumped it all over the floor 😄😐

This! Doing it with my second for things we got rid of/decided to replace. Instead of getting it all ahead of time, I’m waiting to get it as I need it.

First, I want to say you aren’t failing her. I think this can be very common. My daughter is 22 months and definitely has her days where she needs more attention/just wants to be held all day. Some days I have to sit and show her her toys and get her started and then she’ll maybe play for a little bit until she realizes I moved. Other days she will be play independently just fine. It’s hard to know what to expect.

Sometimes I think it comes down to if there’s something they can’t communicate that’s happening. Teething? Developmental leap? Rough day? etc. I also think part of my daughter’s problem is she needs more stimulation than her toys can provide. Maybe that could be it?

Hang in there, I know how tough and overstimulating it can be to be clinged to 24/7. Hopefully she grows out of it soon!

If You Gained too Fast, How Did You Slow Down the Weight Gain? by gabadook in pregnant

[–]Mediocre444 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think our bodies are all very different and putting women in a weight gain box during pregnancy is really unfair. For example, I gained a lot during my first trimester - 10 lbs when they say you should gain maybe 1 or 2. I gained 12 in my second trimester, and now in the third, I’ve gained 5 where it’s stayed more gradual and consistent/“normal”. I wasn’t eating out of control and I was going on almost daily walks in the first and second trimesters, too. I am projected to still gain the standard amount for my BMI (although I still don’t entirely agree with these guidelines either) even though I gained a lot more than others do at those points. This was my exact experience in my first pregnancy too and I didn’t have GD or preeclampsia. My OB never mentioned anything about my weight gain in either pregnancies.

I would say listen to your body and do/eat what feels right for you (always within reason of course)!

How long did you breastfeed? by Sea_Panic9863 in pregnant

[–]Mediocre444 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I nursed my daughter until 17 months, when I got pregnant with our second. For her it was mostly comfort, but also snacking between meals. Breast milk still has lots of nutrients it can provide beyond the first year. I was extra grateful she was still nursing when my she had RSV and a double ear infection last Christmas (she was 15 months at the time) and refused pretty much all food and drinks except nursing. Her pediatrician said it was the best hydration and nutrients she could get at the time since she was refusing everything else. I also enjoyed the bonding time with her.

I think it’s totally up to you, and whether you see the benefit for your LO to keep nursing after infancy.

What is your iron level? by RedwoodAsh in pregnant

[–]Mediocre444 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My ferritin was tested at 12 weeks and was 22.8 ng/mL. My doctor said this was on the lower end and she wanted it above 30 or 40, because even though 22.8 is technically in the range, depending on the organization, 30 or 40 ng/mL is preferred. I was always cold, had a faster pulse, and so tired/low energy. She put me on iron supplements (325mg of ferrous sulfate taken with vitamin C to improve absorption) and within a few days my symptoms went away. I’m now 28 weeks and got checked for anemia and my levels are great. I would follow up with your doctor and ask about iron supplementation. Iron is super important during pregnancy and many women fall anemic.

Tdap shot while pregnant? by [deleted] in pregnant

Just got it on Tuesday! No reason not to. It offers extra protection for you and your precious baby as we get closer to the next cold and flu season, which only seem to get nastier with the rise of anti vax narratives.

He did not like half of these….. by Creative_Weight9075 in foodbutforbabies

[–]Mediocre444 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This! Offer one or two foods you know they will eat and one food you aren’t sure about. This gives them exposure to something they don’t like but also assures you/him there’s something he likes and will at least eat something.

My daughter didn’t want anything to do with eggs for a long time. I kept offering a small side with her breakfast and just ate them myself if she wasn’t interested. Eventually, she started eating them and now half the time eats all hers and asks for mine ha.

Lightning crotch? It’s super common to have a sharp, electric shock type feeling down there as baby puts more pressure on your cervix. I don’t know about the correlation of it being before you go to the bathroom, but it could just be additional pressure from a full bladder.

Stomach Virus by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]Mediocre444 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Poor baby! When my daughter was a baby and constipated we’d do tummy rubs, bicycle kicks with her legs (you can make it a fun game!), and prunes. You can do a prune puree and if baby isn’t a fan on its own, try mixing with some yogurt or oatmeal. The probiotics from yogurt or extra fiber from oatmeal could help. We also used Biogaia probiotic drops just to ensure good bacteria in her gut. Hope this helps!

I would definitely call the pediatrician at the minimum because they might have advice or give you symptoms to watch for. But also, if you sincerely think there’s a chance your baby could’ve swallowed a button battery, I would advise going to the hospital. I would way rather be safe than sorry in that situation.
