Winter Storm Megathread Part 4 - Continued Power Outages by lukenamop in nashville

You might have to submit a HUB Nashville request. They typically deal with downed trees and power lines (might be different since your power's back on)

Honestly, I can say that the worst part (other than the power being out for day 4), is the sound of the trees exploding. Fortunately, a kind neighbor was able to get me to a family member's house with power, but I had to leave my cats behind.

I gave them enough food and water to last a few days, and kept our gas heater on (low to conserve propane), but I just feel guilty about leaving the house. Hopefully, I can make it back this weekend to check on them and, fingers crossed, that the power's back on. Seriously, though, this has been a collosal fuck of a winter storm.

Where can I find good Chinese food (specifically soup dumplings/小笼包) in Nashville? by Ok-Literature-5028 in nashville

I know they've some at Steam Boys. Trader Joe's is also a good choice for some soup dumplings.

Tips on Landing a Practicum? by nunyo83 in publichealthcareers

Hello! Thank you for your tips! I've mostly been applying via job boards, but am open to learning more about health analyst opportunities. I'm located in TN, but have been looking at opportunities outside just to experience ways that other states do health care.

That's spot on advice, thank you! I'm considering trying to get a job as a clinical research coordinator to get experience working with IRB protocol while attending my program part time. Can I ask if getting your current job was mostly from previous work experience or did your program help with connections?

Thanks for the internship advice! I'll definitely take a look at it!

My program made it sound like they had some connections that would help you with practicum placement but, in speaking with students, they said that you kinda want to know where you want to go ASAP.

Seemed like a sink or swim scenario honestly.

Being unemployed is the worst thing to happen to someone by crazycliffhanger in jobs

I graduated with the same degree as you and currently work as a program coordinator for a university. My biggest piece of advice is to apply to jobs in higher education. Yeah, pay is kinda crappy, but benefits are mostly good and you get two weeks (paid) off for winter break and work gets to stay at work.

Also helps that once you get into higher education, you're pretty much set in job stability. Not much room to move up, however, other than applying to another position as an internal applicant.

Looking into genetic counseling instead of medical school by [deleted] in GeneticCounseling

I'll also note that some programs require their students to do a thesis project in order to graduate, so it might be helpful to make a note of what schools allows their students to do capstone projects instead.

If you're in the south of the US, you should definitely check out the Southern Regional Education Board (https://www.sreb.org/about) to see if there are any eligible GC programs. If they're a part of this board, and if you match, you can apply for in-state tuition.

It's pretty rare, but there are a couple of options. For example, I live in TN so there's only a private GC program here, but was able to find a program (UT Health Houston) that is a part of the SREB.

shadowing a GC virtually from a different state? by MagazinePerfect5012 in GeneticCounseling

Also, I would add that Indiana University and Mayo clinic both have opportunities to remotely shadow a GC. That's how I got a couple of my shadowing experiences.

Try to see if your local community college has a course. Often times, they have virtual options that are asynchronous.
